We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and innovative leader to join our team as a Ward Matron. The successful candidate will take accountability for leading the nursing teams in 7W (Gastroenterology) and 8N (Medical/Endocrinology). This pivotal role focuses on delivering exceptional quality care, outstanding patient experience and involvement, and operational excellence throughout the stroke pathway. This is a 12-month fixed term contract maternity cover contract, ending in June 2027 regardless of start date.
You are an accomplished senior nurse with a strong track record in nursing leadership. You bring credibility in managing large nursing teams, ensuring effective governance across the service, implementing and evaluating evidence-based care, and driving service improvements. You are calm under pressure, collaborative across disciplines, and confident in using data to guide decisions and drive outcomes. More than anything you are a kind, expert, collaborative and aspirational leader.
Responsibilities:
- Leading the 8N team and supporting the 7W manager to deliver high-quality, safe and compassionate care.
- The Ward Matron will also provide assurance to the Trust that programmes of care for patients on their ward/unit meet agreed standards.
- Line manage 7W ward manager and 8N ward team.
- Use specialist knowledge and competence to effectively lead their team and produce positive patient outcomes and experiences; providing assurance to the directorate through regular reviews of performance data and improvement programmes.
- Lead operational delivery on the ward by coordinating patient flow, managing bed capacity and working with MDT to meet admission and discharge targets including participating in ops on rota.
- Maintain accountability for their practice and ensure their team is also accountable for their practice and professional development.
- Actively support the Lead Nurse to ensure that safe staffing levels/skill mix is maintained and put in place measures to ensure this both in and out of hours.
- Contribute to quality and service improvement plans, including participation in ward accreditation and Pathway to Excellence activities.
