Join our Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) team as an Emergency Practitioner (EP). This cross-site role spans Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital, two leading acute care centres in London. In this position you will independently assess, diagnose, treat, and discharge patients, while supporting a multidisciplinary team and contributing to clinical leadership, education, and service development.
Main duties of the job:
- Assess, diagnose, treat and discharge or refer patients without a doctor’s reference; prescribe medication where appropriate.
- Plan and deliver evidence-based, individualised patient care.
- Advise and support registered and unregistered staff in delivering care.
- Uphold and promote the EP philosophy of care within the Emergency Department and UTC.
- Help grow the EP service in line with evidence-based guidelines such as NICE.
- Continuously update own knowledge and skills for safe practice.
- Teach and mentor junior nursing staff.
- Collaborate with Lead EP and consultant nurses to organise research and ensure compliance with good clinical research practice.

Person Specification:
Essential qualifications:
- Registered Nurse, Paramedic or physiotherapist.
- Recognised EP qualification (minimum degree level).
- Minor injuries and minor illnesses training (Level 6/7).
Desirable qualifications:
- BSc Hons in Nursing, MSc or PgCert.
- Independent prescribing at MSc level.
- Non-medical prescribing qualifications.
Essential experience & skills:
- Minimum 2 years as an EP in urgent care or similar setting.
- Experience in general practice, walk-in centre, or urgent care.
- Teaching or evidence-based practice experience.
- Critical care, acute ward or A&E experience (desirable).
- Streaming/triage experience (desirable).
- Strong decision-making, leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Effective time management and use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
