Location: Across all five Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust sites.

Hours: 6 or 7 day service (09:00-17:00, including weekends).

About The Role

We are seeking a passionate and highly experienced nurse with a strong background in managing safeguarding cases and situations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to improving the safety and well-being of children and young people within an acute hospital setting. The ideal candidate will have experience in an acute hospital environment or possess transferable skills that will support our safeguarding agenda. This role offers the chance to develop specialist clinical expertise in safeguarding children and young people while working across a diverse range of services. You will gain exposure to a wide range of clinical specialities and work alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team dedicated to protecting children and young people.

Main Duties

  • Provide expert safeguarding support across all five Trust sites, covering a wide range of specialities including:
    • Trauma services
    • Specialist eye hospital
    • Two Accident & Emergency departments
    • Urgent Care Centres
    • Sexual health services
    • Paediatric inpatient services (general medicine, PICU, specialist haematology, infectious diseases, and more)
  • Triage all unscheduled care attendances for children under 18, ensuring timely identification and intervention for safeguarding concerns.
  • Collaborate and share information with external agencies such as health visitors, school nurses, social workers, integrated gang units and Red Thread.
  • Deliver safeguarding training and supervision to staff, promoting best practice across the Trust.
  • Advocate for children and young people in safeguarding meetings and work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Be supported and mentored by the safeguarding team, named nurses, and consultant nurses to help you thrive in this role.

Person Specification

Essential Education / Qualifications:

  • RN (Child) or RN and registered Health Visitor/Specialist Community Public Health Nurse with completion of child & family focus programme
  • Educated to a degree level in relevant subject area or evidence of equivalent
  • RN with relevant safeguarding children experience

Desirable

  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification

Essential Experience:

  • Experience of working within an acute hospital setting with children, young people and their families
  • Experience of team working and liaison with other agencies
  • Evidence of experience in safeguarding practice
  • Experience and knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
  • Sound experience in managing complaints and quality assurance
  • Experience of multi-agency working

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience of providing supervision to staff

Essential Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:

  • Evidence of undertaking senior role working with children, young people and families
  • Detailed and thorough knowledge of current safeguarding legislation and guidelines
  • Demonstrable understanding of National and Local health strategies
