The predicted salary is between 25000 - 35000 £ per year.

Set up, operate and tend various machines (to saw, cut, shear, slit, punch, crimp, notch, bend / straighten materials). Understanding work orders, production schedules & assembly instructions to determine necessary specifications, ensuring that the required parts are present and manufactured to meet quality control standards efficiently on time and within budget.

Day-to-day operations:

  • Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output.
  • Verifying dimensions and product specifications; marking cutting lines on materials.
  • Ensuring that all the required parts for assembly are present.
  • Ensuring that all parts are properly fitted, aligned and fixed securely.
  • Determine and program size of batches, speed of machine etc.
  • Monitor machine while working to adjust feed, maintain temperature & identify issues.
  • Check output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects.
  • Select appropriate machines (e.g. lathes) and position or load material for a job.
  • Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job.
  • Ensuring that quality control standards are met.
  • Maintaining a production schedule.
  • Troubleshooting and stress testing products to minimize problems or recalls.
  • Reporting and detailing product malfunctions.
  • Taking part in any necessary product development meetings.
  • Keep records of approved and defective units or final products.
  • Maintain a safe & clean workstation and perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages.
  • Adhering to all relevant health and safety standards and training protocols.
  • Attending any relevant training sessions as directed by line manager.
  • Other ad hoc duties as and when required and providing essential cover when other members of team are on leave.

Qualifications:

  • Desirable – Apprenticeship or vocational training preferred.

Experience:

  • Proven experience as machinist / fabricator - working with machine tools and / or mechanical assembly.
  • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders etc.).
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g. calipers) to take accurate measurements.
  • Working knowledge of safety protocols.

Specialist Skills/Attributes:

  • Proficiency in operating heavy machinery.
  • Excellent coordination, eyesight, colour vision plus good dexterity & mechanical skills.
  • Physical stamina, strength to lift heavier items and ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to read drawings, schematics and manuals.
  • Can work on their own, as well as part of a team.
  • Helpful and approachable with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Good at mathematics with analytical abilities.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.

Other:

  • Have a current full driving licence.
  • Must have full access to transport to, from and during work.

Salary: Dependent on Experience.
