Monitoring and analyzing technical trends, demands or technology advancement, and participating from that perspective in the development of the product and technology roadmap. Driving and executing research & pre-development projects, in specific technologies as assigned. Utilizing advance development technologies and tools (e.g. 3D stacking technologies, sensing systems, others ...). Creating specifications, design lab and test routines, and leading test programs (incl. evaluation and documentation). Tracking performance and design improvements.

A job at this level applies professional function-specific know how, methods, tools and principles on a range of functional subjects. Analyzes given scientific subjects, technologies or identified problems to create significant solutions or improvements. Contributes to research projects or programs, and takes over accountability for project parts assigned. Designs and setup test or trial series, leads assigned lab staff accordingly, and evaluates results. Creates comprehensive research reports, provides recommendations for management or general business operations. Consults with management or general business operations or other professionals, clients or experts.

Job Summary: Seeking an experienced and motivated Photolithography Engineer to join our Newport Team. This position is a key member of the Engineering team, responsible for improving, sustaining, and troubleshooting photolithography processes. You will play a critical role in the development, optimization, and maintenance of photolithography processes for our power semiconductor products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process Development: Design, develop, optimize, and sustain photolithography processes for high-volume semiconductor manufacturing, including i-line, DUV and polyimide processes.
  • Quality Control: Implement and monitor quality metrics and process control procedures to ensure consistent and high-quality results. Develop and implement process control systems to ensure process stability and repeatability.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize statistical methods and process control tools (e.g., JMP) to analyze process data, perform statistical analysis, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with design, process, and product engineering teams to integrate photolithography processes into the overall fabrication flow and ensure process requirements are met. Collaborate with external partners and suppliers.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve photolithography-related issues in the production environment, ensuring smooth production flow. Implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date process documentation, including process specifications, operating procedures, and training materials. Document processes, procedures, and experimental results clearly and concisely.
  • Training: Provide technical training and support to production staff and junior engineers.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency, yield, and quality. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in photolithography technology and apply them to improve existing processes.
  • Safety: Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Ownership: Take ownership of a defined process or equipment toolset, driving OEE improvement through baseline equipment analysis and improvement projects. Monitor tool/process instability and develop action plans to reduce long-term stability issues. Monitor CpK and own process control improvement plans for a defined area.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Identify opportunities to eliminate waste within own toolset/process, including operator time, process simplification, and qualification optimization. Report scrap/rework and own scrap/rework reduction plans. Drive actions and progress of related yield excursions on associated processes and manage updates on associated scrap incidents. Support all activity for technology transfer within the area of expertise.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in photolithography process engineering within the semiconductor industry. Experience with power semiconductor devices is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in photolithography technologies, including experience in coat, alignment, and develop processes. Experience with stepper or scanner technology, advanced lithography techniques (e.g. DUV).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in statistical analysis and process control. Familiarity with mask design software and layout tools.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong documentation skills.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of semiconductor device physics and fabrication processes, experience with cleanroom operations and safety protocols, programming skills and familiarity with machine learning algorithms for process optimization.
  • Desired Skills: Strong training skills and technical familiarity with product and processes. Ability to work flexible hours and effectively in teams. Detailed knowledge of wafer fab manufacturing processes and systems. Familiarity with modern manufacturing concepts such as JIT, Kaizen, Zero Defects, SPC, TQM, and TPM. Experience in driving continuous improvement activities and projects for assigned measurables. Highly motivated, results-oriented, customer service-oriented, with strong leadership and communication skills. SiC experience would be advantageous.
