About the role
Currencycloud was acquired by Visa in December 2021. Our Senior Java Engineers are responsible for implementing an industry-leading API that has already processed over 50 billion USD of cross-border transactions for over 5 million end users, and is available to our clients 24x7. But we’re not stopping there, and our engineers are at the forefront of taking us forward to meet the demands of even greater scale.
What you'll get to do
- As a Senior Java Engineer you’ll play a key role within your cross functional team, taking responsibility for your services and the technology within them.
- These roles fit into squads who are building out brand new parts to our payments platform, focusing on high availability, cloud native, microservice concepts.
- You'll get to work as the Senior Engineer in your squad, leading on discussions around technical direction and systems design, as well as mentoring more junior members of the team.

Our Tech Stack includes:
- Object-oriented programming in Java 11+ and Spring Boot
- Cloud-native applications on AWS using Kubernetes and a microservice architecture
- Docker, Kubernetes, ElasticSearch, log management, and Datadog APM
- OpenAPI/Swagger API specifications for boundaries between clients and products
- SQL databases as the persistence layer
- Familiarity with AWS, Terraform, and Docker for infrastructure automation
- Testing approaches (TDD, BDD, Contract Testing) with frameworks such as JUnit, RSpec, and Cucumber
- Agile development with squads and tribes; a culture of continuous improvement
- CI/CD pipelines for automated builds and deployments
- GitHub and PR reviews as part of the developer workflow
- Cross-team collaboration with Product Owners and QA
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 2+ years with an Advanced degree or 0 years with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 2+ years with an Advanced degree or 0 years with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.
- 5+ years experience in Java Backend Development.
- 5+ years experience with Java (8+) and Spring/Spring Boot.
- Agile experience in Scrum or Kanban.
- Expertise with Docker, EKS, AWS and Kafka.
