In your role as Senior Java Software Engineer you will help us achieve our goals and deliver success on behalf of our customer by:
- Collaborating with team members to develop new features and maintain the existing Java code base to support the ARIC UI
- Supporting the teams' efforts to ensure software dependencies remain up-to-date and vulnerability free
- Supporting the team's investigation and resolution of customer issues, including leading coordination where necessary
- Providing Java and agile software development expertise
- Expert understanding of relevant technologies and ability to write optimized, scalable code
- Solving complex problems and helping others in debugging and resolving issues
- Seen as a code approver at a larger scale outside of scrum team
- Improving areas of the system they work on, leaving things better than they found them
- Leading significant portions of projects and making impactful contributions
- Capable of driving technical initiatives and leading resolution of critical bugs
- Identifying solutions to larger problems with assistance from peers
- Taking part in the process of interviewing, recruitment, and onboarding within their team
- Taking full ownership of projects and ensuring success
- Regularly mentoring other engineers, particularly those less experienced than themselves
- Able to support onboarding of new engineers into their team
- Proactively seeking and giving timely, actionable feedback in their team
- Promoting good practices and helping other engineers deepen their knowledge
- Confidence in judgement and design making, pulling in support from around the company where needed
Qualifications:
- Demonstrable experience in a software engineering position
- Ability to manage and prioritise your own workload
- Modern IDEs, source control and continuous integration systems
- Experience of designing and developing scalable distributed applications
- Knowledge of patterns and their trade-offs in a distributed environment
- Comfortable working with large codebases
- External API integration
- Code profiling and performance tuning
Great to Have:
- Experience of relational and/or NoSQL databases for large datasets
- Cloud platforms and automation
