Hi, we’re Bloom & Wild.

Founded in 2013, our mission back then was to make sending and receiving flowers the joy that it should be, by harnessing technology, brand and letterbox delivery.

Together, we’ve fulfilled over 20 million deliveries (and counting!), making us the largest direct to consumer flower business in Europe.

We announced £75 million Series D funding in 2021 and that same year acquired bloomon in The Netherlands and Bergamotte in France.

Now home to a family of 3 beautiful brands, we’re expanding our gifting offering to other categories like cakes, candles and cocktails.

This is all part of our ambition to build Europe’s #1 direct to consumer gifting destination.

Technology at Bloom & Wild

Our Technology team of over 60 people sits right at the heart of our business.

We build and maintain the solutions that power e-commerce, production and fulfilment, enabling our brands to delight our customers every day.

The Product Engineering team consists of five cross‑functional squads who each lead their own business and architectural domain, and are supported by our Platform, Domain Engineering, Data and IT teams.

Our platform uses technologies including Ruby and Rails and Python/ React, backed by Postgre SQL, Fargate/ECS on AWS, and Cloud Run on GCP.

It exposes APIs that are used by our multi‑brand Angular webapp and our native i OS and Android mobile apps.

We’re also looking at developing new domain‑driven services & microservices where applicable.

Most of our team is based in the UK or The Netherlands and works in a flexible model, with choice in how often they travel to the office.

Our squads meet in person at least once per quarter in order to maintain connections, collaborate on larger projects and have fun together.

What you’ll be doing

As a Platform Engineer you’ll work across the whole of Technology (Frontend, Backend, Data Engineering, Data Science and Warehouse Tech) helping other engineers ship better, faster, and more safely.

You’ll split your time roughly equally between embedded engagements inside domain squads and central platform work on the shared infrastructure.

The role of an engineer is changing.

AI has removed writing code as the scarce skill; the valuable engineer is the one who picks the right problems, scopes them, and owns them through to how they behave in production.

This role leans into that shift.

You will work with a high degree of independence and the work isn’t always handed to you as ready‑made tickets, so you’ll have space to identify, shape and deliver on solutions end‑to‑end.

This includes

  • Embedded Engagements: Partner with domain squads, shipping code and tools to directly enhance their capability and solve real problems.
  • Paved Roads: Build shared, adoption‑driven infrastructure like feature flags, canary rollouts, fast builds, and CI/CD patterns. Making the easiest path the best path.
  • AI Integration: Extend AI across the engineering lifecycle (ticket generation, config authoring, incident response, code review), operating with AI as your core working mode and creating reusable patterns.
  • Core Infrastructure: Maintain and evolve shared services: AWS, Git Hub, Datadog, Cloudflare, distributing ownership across the Platform team.
  • Eliminate Toil: Automate manual processes and remove friction from the developer day‑to‑day.
  • Enable Ownership: Coach squads on SLOs, observability, and AI tooling, ensuring they are capable of leading their production behaviour without relying on Platform.
  • Strategic Impact: Proactively identify, scope, and deliver high‑leverage problems from month six onwards.
  • You’ll love this role if you…
  • Have day‑to‑day experience with AWS and Terraform, and the judgement to balance performance, cost, and reliability.
  • Our stack includes ECS Fargate, RDS, Elasti Cache, Dynamo DB, Lambda, and Event Bridge.
  • Have good judgement across CI/CD and observability, comfortable with safe and reliable deployment practices (we use Git Hub Actions and Terraform Cloud), and comfortable using metrics, logs, and traces to understand how applications and infrastructure behave.
  • Experience and enthusiasm using AI coding tools, or a keenness to adopt this style of working.
  • Are willing to pick up app‑side stacks like Ruby and Python, and are comfortable operating inside long‑lived monoliths without trying to rewrite them.
  • Take end‑to‑end ownership of problems (even without a ticket) you’re comfortable operating in ambiguity and defining the problem before the solution.
  • A curious and innovative mindset, open to feedback and coaching, and seek out opportunities for learning and development.
  • Driven to deliver high‑quality results and take initiative.
  • You love to collaborate, and are at your best when working cross‑functionally with other teams.
  • You’re excited about problem‑solving and love to take a logical and collaborative approach to finding solutions.

It would be great if you also have...

  • Been part of rolling out production‑ownership practices across a team or organisation.
  • Experience working on an e‑commerce site or in a fast‑growing (preferably consumer‑facing) environment.
  • Experience setting patterns that other engineers adopted without being told to.
  • Experience writing services or apps that fit into distributed architectures — working with APIs, event‑driven patterns, and the contracts and practices that keep distributed systems stable.

You can be based in the UK, the Netherlands or elsewhere. We’re flexible on what this looks like and would love to discuss how you like to work!

These are some of the skills and experience we think will enable success in this role, but please don’t worry if you are missing some of these.

We’re committed to building a team made up of different strengths, skills and experiences, so if you’re excited about our values, passionate about what you do and would like to join us in doing things more thoughtfully, we’d love to hear from you.

How to prepare for a job interview at Visa Hunt

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Visa Hunt uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
