London Full-Time On-site

We are looking for a hands-on, highly adaptable Engineering Technical Lead to jump into a high-visibility data transformation project on short notice.

This hybrid role sits at the intersection of Solution Architecture, Product Ownership, Business Analysis, and Data Engineering. You will bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical execution—spending time face-to-face with clients to translate business requirements into a clear technical backlog, while guiding a team of 3–4 junior-to-mid-level engineers through execution.

The core deliverable is a migration from Amazon Redshift to Snowflake, with complex data retention rules, compliance considerations, and significant business change management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary technical point of contact for business stakeholders. Lead discovery workshops, unpack business requirements, and manage change expectations across teams.

  • Architecture & Product Ownership: Review Review the migration roadmap from Redshift to Snowflake, ensuring the data architecture supports long-term scalability, governance, and strict data retention policies. Translate high-level business goals into structured epics, user stories, and actionable technical tasks; manage the team’s sprint backlog.

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and mentor a team of 3–4 engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and pair programming to elevate overall delivery quality.

  • Hands-on Execution: Step into the code/pipelines when needed to unblock engineers, validate technical designs, and establish best practices for data modeling and transformation.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

Technical Requirements

  • Data Warehousing: Proven hands-on experience migrating legacy data platforms (specifically Amazon Redshift) to modern cloud warehouses (Snowflake).

  • Data Governance & Retention: Expertise in designing schema architectures, partition strategies, and automated data retention/archival policies for regulatory compliance.

  • Data Engineering & Pipeline Design: Proficiency in SQL, Python, and modern data stack tools (e.g., dbt, Airflow, or similar orchestration platforms).

Leadership & Delivery Requirements

  • Cross-Functional Background: Strong dual capability across technical solution design and product/business analysis (backlog grooming, requirements gathering, stakeholder alignment).

  • People Leadership: Demonstrated experience mentoring and guiding early-career/mid-level data engineers.

  • Communication & Change Management: Excellent customer-facing skills with the ability to articulate complex technical decisions to non-technical business leaders.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with business change frameworks or experience navigating organizational shift during large-scale platform migrations.

  • Experience with cost-optimization strategies in Snowflake.
