Reporting to the Cluster Director, the Data Centre Manager (DCM) is responsible for the day-to-day management and successful operation of the site, including Data Centre Management, customer implementations, operational continuity, reporting, and overseeing the VIRTUS team and third-party contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage facilities, including FM provider, health & safety and compliance.
  • Responsible for operations financial budgeting.
  • Site-level procurement and risk management.
  • Ensure all emergency operating procedures (EOPs), standard operating procedures (SOPs) and method of operations (MOP) are in place and accurate, and provide assistance for other sites including peer review.
  • Critical infrastructure asset management and asset lifecycle.
  • Audit awareness and support frequent audit processes.
  • Capacity management, including power and floor space, and assist with forecasting loadings.
  • Site-level approval for change management.
  • Incident and problem management support for the FM team.
  • Manage new and existing customer requirements (site tours, reporting, service reviews, etc.).
  • Day-to-day operations and customer requirements, including small projects.
  • Participation in data centre scenario testing, tracking and logging issues with lessons learned.
  • Manage internal cabling and external carrier fibres to a high standard.
  • Equipment lifecycle management, budgeting, technical feasibility, critical spares, operational risk reduction and improvement planning.
  • Zero-downtime focus with risk analysis and mitigation.
  • Awareness of customer contractual SLAs and KPIs.
  • Manage and escalation of potential customer-affecting issues.
  • Part of incident response process, may respond out of hours.
  • Performance management of FM service provider, ensuring high-standard completion of all sub-vendor work.
  • Create a positive, teamwork-focused on-site environment, encouraging cross-department collaboration.
  • Coach and manage direct reports, share knowledge and continuous improvement.
  • Attend site for unplanned circumstances when required.
  • Ensure correct escalation processes for all issues.
  • Validate that all planned preventive maintenance (PPM) is completed on time; log faults or advisories and track to completion.
  • Assist with monthly reporting on customer power usage, PUE, capacity, trackers, board packs and ensure all information is correct and delivered on time.
  • Provide quality updates for the daily call and attend weekly/monthly service review, maintenance and construction meetings.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment, compliance with all company policies and client site policies.
  • Maintain a high visual standard for the data centre.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a data centre or other critical management role.
  • Experience managing a team and creating a positive team environment.
  • Strong process management and development experience in a live operational environment.
  • Extensive real-time incident/fault management experience in a business-critical environment.
  • Experience managing third-party suppliers against stringent SLAs.
  • Financial and budget management skills.
  • Good understanding of health and safety, ISO standards, compliance, BMS, PMS, fire systems.
  • Knowledge of data centre customer installations (racks, HAC, cabling, cross-connects, power, testing, acceptance).
  • Customer ticket logging systems: MAXIMO and ServiceNow desired.
  • High personal standards, attention to detail, and desire to complete tasks on time.

Additional Requirements

  • Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, with participation in escalation management on an out-of-hours on-call rota and for critical works.
  • The role includes an on-call element, requiring participation in an out-of-hours on-call escalation rota.
  • Successful applicants must be willing to undergo a BS7858 screening process in line with VIRTUS Vetting Policy.
