Join to apply for the Project Manager role at VIRTUS Data Centres. VIRTUS Data Centres is the UK’s fastest‑growing data centre provider, owning, designing, building, and running some of the most efficient and adaptable data centres in the country. Our mission is to continually exceed customer expectations with cutting‑edge, high‑quality solutions and services. We recruit bright, positive people who enhance our customer offering and our business. We believe individual effort and initiative matter, and we lean heavily on teamwork—because our collective experience and knowledge are our biggest strengths.

Job Summary

As a Project Manager at VIRTUS, you will oversee all phases of the project lifecycle—from conception and planning through to implementation, delivery, and final sign‑off. You will ensure that every project adheres to the VIRTUS PMO framework and meets its timeline, budget, and quality requirements. Your duties include day‑to‑day issue resolution, removing obstacles that block progress, and reporting regularly to the Project Director. You will also lead stakeholder communication (both internal and external), ensure successful handover to Operations, and continuously promote health, safety, and best practices.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage construction‑related works for VIRTUS data centre projects, coordinating contractors, external teams, and internal site teams.
  • Maintain rigorous Health & Safety oversight across all project sites.
  • Define project scope, objectives, and briefs; limit scope creep and variation to control costs.
  • Produce, maintain, and track project plans, programmes, and deliverables in collaboration with design teams and external consultants.
  • Manage formal change requests via SNOW and secure approvals through the Change Advisory Board (CAB) before proceeding with works.
  • Oversee commissioning and snagging processes; ensure all final testing and specialist sign‑offs are completed before handover to the Operations Team.
  • Prepare and present weekly status reports to the Project Director; escalated risks and delays using the prescribed escalation path.
  • Manage project finances in line with the approved business case; source, review, and approve quotes; raise purchase requisitions as needed.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all project stakeholders (design, construction, customer, operations) throughout the lifecycle.
  • Ensure final handover is thorough, that operational readiness is met, and that any ongoing defects or items are closed out efficiently.
  • Support additional works at other sites when required.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience working within Data Centres and delivery of successful projects is essential.
  • The successful applicant will also have substantial Project Management experience and a proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Previous Line Management Experience is desirable.
  • Proven track record delivering data centre projects (or equivalent in critical/high‑availability environments).
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience managing budgets, financial tracking, and delivering to client satisfaction.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Project, or equivalent project scheduling tools.
  • Ability to define quality criteria and ensure work meets those standards.
  • In line with VIRTUS’ Vetting Policy, the successful applicant must be willing to undergo a BS7858 screening process.

Key Personal Qualities & Behaviours

  • Clear and persuasive written and verbal communicator; confident engaging with contractors, customers, design teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience leading virtual and external teams in a matrixed organisation.
  • Highly organised, calm under pressure, and able to maintain focus on priorities.
  • Self‑motivated, proactive, with a “can‑do” attitude.
  • Integrity, approachability, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Comfortable managing conflict, negotiating difficult trade‑offs, and seeking win‑win outcomes.
  • Always looking for process improvements; adaptable to change and able to lead others through it.
  • Strong escalation discipline; brings issues early with possible solutions.
  • Able to facilitate meetings effectively to ensure all voices are heard and decisions made.
