Finance Officer
Are you an experienced finance professional looking for a varied role within a growing and entrepreneurial business?
We are looking for an organised, proactive and detail-focused Finance Officer to join our finance team. This is a varied role covering the day-to-day financial operations of a portfolio of companies, with responsibility for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end processes and providing reliable financial information to the wider business.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a finance or bookkeeping role and be comfortable working independently across a range of accounting activities. You may be part or fully qualified in a recognised accountancy qualification, or an experienced bookkeeper looking to take the next step in your career.
The Client
From our office in NN3 Moulton Park Industrial Estate We provide card processing services supporting businesses to take payments face-to-face at point of sale, online, over the phone and through vending.
Our services include the supply and support of point-of-sale credit and debit card processing machines to small businesses, retailers, charities, and vending machine operators.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the Finance Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has good practical accounting experience and is looking for a role where they can take ownership of their work, develop their skills, and become an important part of a small finance team.
You will work closely with the Financial Controller and other areas of the business to ensure that financial information is accurate, complete, and available on a timely basis.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records across a portfolio of Group companies.
- Processing and posting financial transactions accurately and within required timescales.
- Maintaining customer and supplier accounts and ensuring records are complete and accurate.
- Completing daily and monthly bank reconciliations and investigating any discrepancies.
- Processing purchase invoices, supplier payments, and remittances.
- Processing sales invoices and customer receipts.
- Managing direct debit collections and accurately matching payments to customer accounts.
- Liaising with customers and suppliers to resolve account queries and outstanding balances.
- Maintaining appropriate records and supporting documentation.
Month-End & Management Accounts
- Supporting the Financial Controller with the monthly management accounts process.
- Completing month-end reconciliations and ensuring balance sheet accounts are accurate and supported.
- Preparing and posting month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments, and depreciation.
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly management reports.
- Providing accurate financial information and analysis when required.
- Identifying and investigating unusual transactions, variances, or discrepancies.
Financial Administration & Support
- Providing information and support to other departments within the Group where required.
- Maintaining organised and accurate financial records.
- Assisting with the administration of the finance function and ensuring processes are followed consistently.
- Supporting the Financial Controller with ad-hoc financial analysis and projects.
- Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes, efficiency, and controls.
About You
We are looking for someone who is confident working across a broad range of finance activities and who takes pride in producing accurate and timely work.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a finance, accounts, or bookkeeping role.
- A good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and core accounting principles.
- Experience of bank reconciliations, purchase and sales ledgers and general bookkeeping.
- Experience of month-end processes, including journals, accruals, and prepayments.
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Good numerical and analytical skills and the ability to work with large volumes of financial data.
- Good Excel skills and confidence working with spreadsheets.
- Experience using cloud-based accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage.
- The ability to organise and prioritise your own workload and meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to liaise with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
- A proactive approach, with the ability to identify issues and take action to resolve them.
- The ability to work independently while also being a supportive member of a small finance team.
Qualifications
A formal accountancy qualification is not essential.
We would welcome applications from candidates who are:
- AAT qualified or part-qualified;
- Studying towards an accountancy qualification;
- Qualified or part-qualified in another recognised accountancy qualification; or
- Experienced bookkeepers with strong practical accounting experience.
Relevant experience will be considered alongside formal qualifications.

Salary: Β£30,000βΒ£35,000 depending on experience and qualifications
