The Opportunity
This is a career-defining role for an enterprise architect who wants to own the commercial engine of a specialist, high-growth practice, not be one technical voice among many in a large consultancy. As Lead Architect at Virtuoso Partners, you will be the most senior technical voice in the business and a direct driver of commercial growth. You will lead presales across our Workato, M-Files and Tungsten Automation practices owning the end-to-end presales cycle from first discovery call to signed contract. You will use genuine enterprise architecture depth to shape what clients need before proposing how to deliver it, and you will build the reusable IP and architectural standards that define how VP delivers at scale.
This is not a delivery-only role. Approximately 35% of your time is focused on commercial presales: running discovery with CIOs and senior stakeholders, designing and delivering tailored demonstrations, shaping proposals that win, and building VP’s technical reputation within the Workato partner ecosystem. The rest of your time spans cross-practice architectural authority, delivery governance, IP development, team mentoring, and working directly with our CEO and COO to evolve VP’s advisory value proposition.
The ideal candidate has the consultative presence to earn a CIO’s trust in a first meeting, the commercial instinct to shape a deal, and the architectural depth to ensure what gets sold gets delivered.
What You Will Do
- Commercial Presales Leadership (~35% of your time)
- Own the presales cycle on Workato opportunities. Lead discovery with CIOs and senior stakeholders; listening and eliciting rather than presenting and steamrolling. Shape what a client needs before proposing how VP will deliver it. Design and deliver tailored demonstrations. Author solution blueprints and commercial proposals that win. This is the most commercially visible part of your role.
- Build and own VP’s technical relationship with Workato. Attend Workato events and partner forums. Engage directly with Workato’s presales and partner enablement teams. Ensure VP — and you personally — are known by name as the technical leader in our space. This is a relationship and reputation asset for the whole business.
- Enterprise Architecture & Delivery
- Serve as VP’s cross-practice architectural authority. Apply a value engineering-led approach where client business outcomes anchor solution design. Know when each of VP’s three technologies — Workato, M-Files, Tungsten Automation — is the right answer, alone or in combination. Be the tiebreaker and the standard-setter.
- Establish and maintain common solution architecture standards. Raise VP’s delivery floor across all practices (not just Workato). Define the patterns, guard rails, and quality benchmarks that every architect works within.
- Provide architectural continuity from presales into delivery. Guide and advise BAs, PMs and developers on Workato engagements to ensure what gets built matches what was designed and promised. The gap between presales and delivery should not exist on your watch.
- Advisory, IP & Practice Development
- Shape VP’s advisory value proposition and market positioning. Work alongside Ben Nilsson and Ed Nicklin to define how VP talks to the market. Your enterprise architecture depth should be the intellectual foundation of VP’s advisory positioning, particularly in Workato and AI orchestration.
- Develop enablement content and reusable IP. Architecture patterns, solution accelerators, delivery frameworks, white papers, and training materials; applicable across VP’s capabilities, not Workato alone. Build the IP library that outlasts any single engagement.
- Lead VP’s internal R&D and platform knowledge. Maintain Workato OCP and presales certifications. Develop base-level certification across M-Files and Tungsten Automation. Stay ahead of Workato’s roadmap. Oversee platform knowledge strategies across the architect community.
- Team Leadership & Mentoring
- Mentor VP’s architect community. Conduct technical workshops. Build the capability of Kevin, Filip, and future architects; not just doing great work yourself but making everyone around you better.
- Take on line management of VP’s architects over time. Relieve Ed Nicklin of direct architect management as the team and structure evolve. Grow the function.
What We Are Looking For
- Required
- Enterprise architecture depth, a TOGAF mindset and the ability to operate at the intersection of business strategy, technology design and delivery. TOGAF certification strongly preferred; demonstrable EA depth at minimum.
- Proven presales leadership, running discovery with C-suite and senior stakeholders, shaping and delivering tailored demonstrations, and authoring proposals that convert. You understand that presales is a commercial activity, not a technical exercise.
- Hands-on iPaaS experience Workato, Boomi, MuleSoft, or equivalent. Deep Workato expertise is ideal; proven ability to ramp from adjacent platform experience is acceptable.
- Consultative client presence, ability to lead a discovery session with a CIO, listen and elicit rather than present and pitch and shape what a client needs before proposing how to deliver it.
- Experience developing reusable IP, architectural patterns, accelerators, delivery frameworks, or enablement content applicable across a practice or capability set.
- Ability to lead and influence at senior level, guiding technical teams, setting standards, and earning trust at CIO/CEO level and within a vendor ecosystem.
- Excellent communication across levels, equally fluent with a developer and an executive boardroom.
- Highly Desirable
- Current Workato OCP certification, or the demonstrable capability to achieve it within 20 days of joining.
- Existing relationships within the Workato vendor or partner ecosystem particularly with Workato’s technical, presales, or product teams.
- Awareness of or experience with M-Files (ECM/information governance) and Tungsten Automation / TotalAgility (IDP).
- Experience contributing to practice or proposition development; shaping advisory value propositions, defining market positioning, or leading a technical function.
- Background in a specialist consultancy or high-growth advisory firm; comfortable in a 22-person business where your work is visible and your impact is direct.
- Line management or team leadership experience in an architectural or consultancy context.
What Success Looks Like
In your first year, you will have established yourself as VP’s commercial and architectural authority. You will have led presales that win, with a measurable contribution to deal conversion. You will have shipped a common architectural standard across VP’s three practices. You will be known by name within Workato’s partner team. Clients will ask for you by name. The architecture community will be materially stronger for your presence. And you will have helped define how VP thinks, talks about, and delivers enterprise architecture in ways that outlast any single engagement.
