Python Engineer required to work with a Commodities & Energy trading house to join one of the most commercially impactful and fastest-growing desks in the business. This is not a traditional Python engineering role; you’ll sit directly on the trading desk, working day-to-day with traders and energy analysts focused on Japanese gas & power markets, building the platforms and tools that underpin real trading decisions.

As a Python Engineer, you will be building Python-based data and analytics platforms used directly by the trading desk, developing tools for:

  • Gas & power forecasting
  • Pre-trade analytics

Working closely with traders and analysts to translate market ideas into scalable solutions. Designing robust, production-grade systems for real-time and decision-critical use. Contributing to the evolution of the desk’s analytics and modelling capability.

3 days per week in office (Liverpool Street). 6 months rolling, multi-year contract. Strong Python software engineering. Experience building systems in finance (e.g. trading, pricing, risk, PnL). Translating desk problems into technical solutions.

This is a rare chance to move into a highly commercial, front-office aligned role, where Python engineering meets trading. You’ll gain deep exposure to how markets actually function, while building tools that directly influence strategy and performance.

If you’re looking to move beyond pure engineering and want to work at the intersection of technology, data, and trading, this is a great role. They are looking for a Python engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, working closely with the business, and building scalable, production-grade Python solutions in a fast-paced environment.
