My client is a global, utility-backed energy trading business with a strong focus on commodities and the management of complex flows across LNG, coal, power, and freight markets. With exposure to multiple international trading environments, the company places significant value on accurate data modelling and clear trade-lifecycle insight to support informed decision-making. As their Commodities & Energy Brokerage division undergoes a period of technology and data transformation, they are modernising systems and improving how data is captured, processed, and leveraged across the front-to-back trading process. Their model combines physical trading, market optimisation, and data-led analysis, creating an environment where Business Analysts play a key role in shaping workflows, improving reporting, and supporting the day-to-day needs of global trading teams.

As such, strong business knowledge around commodities and energy is critical for this Business Analyst role, as is experience in data-focused projects.

As a Business Analyst, you will be required to support data engineers managing the Databricks platform and data pipelining, as well as understand the commodities and energy trade lifecycle and the data required from both front and middle office to develop extensive system and application knowledge across different trades. The Business Analyst will be expected to proactively engage with users, working collaboratively to translate business needs into structured data requirements. You must take ownership of creating clear, structured documentation (e.g., backlogs of user stories) and be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Salary: Up to £60,000 + benefits

Location: Hybrid, 2–3 days from the office, based in Euston Square, London

Experience needed for the Business Analyst role

• Demonstrated ability to work with data engineers and wider data teams, assisting with requirement gathering, data-quality checks, and supporting the development of data-driven reporting and workflow enhancements
• Strong SQL experience, including querying data sets, performing basic transformations, and checking data quality to support business requirements
• Commodities / Energy Trading experience (preferably including physical LNG, Coal, Freight, or Oil)
• Front / middle office knowledge; pricing and valuation
