Our client, a leading international investment bank, is seeking a Technical Equities Trading Analyst to join their Front Office Electronic Trading team. This is a high-impact role sitting at the core of their execution business, where you will analyse UK & European equities flow, understand how orders interact with fragmented liquidity, and provide the real-time insights that shape trader decision-making. Your work will directly influence how the bank executes across LSE, CBOE Europe, Turquoise and other venues, ensuring strategies behave predictably under volatility and deliver consistent best execution.
You will act as the technical authority on market microstructure and electronic execution, decoding venue behaviour, identifying anomalies, and translating complex flow patterns into actionable improvements for traders and algo developers. This includes refining VWAP/TWAP/POV/IS strategies, enhancing smart order routing logic, and ensuring the execution stack responds intelligently to shifting liquidity conditions. Every insight you generate feeds directly into how the bank interacts with the market — from routing decisions to algorithmic behaviour and execution quality.
The environment spans Fidessa, Broadridge (TBricks, ULLINK), EMS/OMS platforms, and internal analytics tooling. Your challenge is to help evolve this into a more data-driven, insight-rich execution framework capable of supporting high-volume electronic flow, real-time performance monitoring, and continuous optimisation. You’ll work closely with traders, technology teams, and FIX connectivity specialists to ensure the platform remains competitive, resilient, and aligned to the bank’s strategic ambitions in electronic execution.
Salary: 120k + bonus + pension
Location: London (4 days onsite)
Tech & Tools: Fidessa | Broadridge (TBricks, ULLINK) | Python | SQL | Excel VBA | FIX | EMS/OMS | TCA | Market Microstructure Analytics
Technical Requirements
- Front Office Execution Expertise: Deep experience analysing electronic equities flow, with strong understanding of UK & European market microstructure, venue behaviour, and liquidity dynamics across LSE, CBOE Europe, and Turquoise.
- Algorithmic Strategy Insight: Hands-on experience with VWAP, TWAP, POV, Implementation Shortfall, and smart order routing logic — understanding how these strategies behave under different liquidity and volatility conditions.
- Trading Infrastructure Knowledge: Direct exposure to EMS/OMS platforms and trading floor environments, ideally with experience in Fidessa (market making, RSP) and Broadridge tools (TBricks, ULLINK).
- Data & Analytics Proficiency: Strong technical fluency in Python, SQL, and Excel/VBA for analysing large trade datasets, building dashboards, and prototyping execution analytics.
- FIX Protocol Mastery: Ability to interpret FIX messages (NewOrderSingle, ExecutionReport), diagnose routing or connectivity issues, and work with FIX hubs/gateways.
- Market Structure & Connectivity: Understanding of venue microstructure, auction behaviour, dark/visible liquidity, and cross-venue routing patterns.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Market & Flow Analysis: Analyse UK equities trade flows with a focus on electronic and algorithmic execution. Identify patterns, anomalies, and optimisation opportunities across venues and strategies.
- Execution Strategy Refinement: Collaborate with traders and algo developers to enhance VWAP/TWAP/POV/IS logic and smart order routing behaviour. Provide real-time insights into execution quality, slippage, and venue performance.
- Technical & Platform Insight: Work closely with technology teams to improve execution tooling, analytics pipelines, and connectivity. Support enhancements to routing logic, algo parameters, and performance monitoring.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with traders, IT, compliance, and external EMS/OMS vendors to support platform evolution. Deliver insights, presentations, and custom studies to client trading teams and distribution.
- Reporting & Research: Produce dashboards and reports on execution performance, liquidity metrics, and market trends. Research new datasets, TCA methodologies, and pre/post-trade analytics to improve decision-making.
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to global equities (US, EU, India)
- Experience with TCA platforms (Bloomberg BTCA, Virtu)
- Knowledge of MiFID II and regulatory reporting
- Familiarity with market impact modelling or microstructure research
