A Commodities & Energy Trading firm is seeking a Junior C# Developer to join its Front Office technology team. The role supports a core valuation and risk platform used across the trading business, covering products such as Power, Gas, LNG, Oil and Environmental markets. This position is suited to someone with 1–3 years of C#/.NET experience who is looking to develop their career within a trading environment. While the systems are business-critical and front-office aligned, the role is positioned at junior level with appropriate guidance and mentoring from more senior engineers.

The Role

You will contribute to the development and maintenance of backend services that support pricing, valuation and risk reporting. The platform underpins daily trading activity and is used by traders, risk managers and quantitative teams, so reliability and performance are important. The role involves working across the full software development lifecycle. This includes contributing to technical design discussions, implementing new features, assisting with refactoring existing components, and supporting production systems where required. You will work closely with senior developers and gradually build domain knowledge around trading systems and financial products. Although the team interacts with front-office stakeholders, prior quant experience is not required. An interest in financial markets and a willingness to learn will be important.

Responsibilities

  • You will be involved in developing and enhancing C#/.NET backend services, supporting pricing and risk functionality, and helping to maintain system stability.
  • The role also includes assisting with debugging and resolving production issues, contributing to testing and code reviews, and ensuring that development follows good engineering practices.
  • There will be opportunities to gain exposure to architecture decisions, distributed systems design and performance optimisation over time.

Required Background

Candidates should have 1–3 years of professional experience working with C# and .NET (Core or Framework). Experience building backend systems, APIs or service-based applications is expected, along with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles. Some exposure to SQL databases is desirable. Experience with cloud platforms, containerisation (e.g. Docker) or CI/CD pipelines would be beneficial but is not essential. Prior experience within financial services or trading is helpful but not mandatory. The team is open to developers from other sectors who are interested in moving into a trading environment.

Technical Environment

The core stack centres around C# and .NET, with cloud-based services and containerised deployments. The platform integrates with databases such as SQL Server and operates within a distributed systems architecture.

Working Environment

This is a front-office aligned engineering role within a trading business, offering exposure to commercially focused systems. The environment is collaborative and technically driven, with opportunities for progression as technical capability and domain knowledge develop.

Permanent role. Up to £60k base salary + bonus + benefits. Hybrid working (London-based office). Interviews available immediately.
