Virtue Vets was founded by dedicated pet owners and veterinarians with a shared vision—to create a modern, high-quality vet care experience. We are seeking a highly organized and energetic Accountant who can also perform a bookkeeper role, maintain financial records, manage finances, conduct FP&A and support external accountants to oversee the financial health of the Company. We are a startup. An entrepreneurial nature is a must-have. In practical terms this means being a self-starter (takes responsibility, gets things done, no hand-holding needed). You must be able to manage all finance function roles. Please only apply if you can execute all the key responsibilities below to a level that can be auditable by external accountants.
Must Haves
- You must have a degree in accounting and be a Chartered Accountant (CA)
- You must have practiced for 5 years minimum in the UK
- You must hold a UK accounting certification and qualifications recognized in the UK.
- Examples include: ACA (Associate Chartered Accountant) from the ICAEW or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) .Other options include CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) ,and CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy) .
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing monthly and yearly accounts.
- Preparing financial statements showing business income and expenditure.
- Developing monthly financial statements including cash flow, profit and loss and balance sheets.
- Processing payments, invoices, income and receipts and entering data into accounting software or databases then filing hard copies.
- Manage and process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payment of invoices and collection of outstanding balances.
- Monitor and implement controls over the clinic’s sales system to ensure accurate recording of all revenue and prevent errors or omissions.
- Manage external accountants
- Reconciling the clinic sales system reports to detect discrepancies and ensure completeness.
- Maintenance of fixed asset register and ensuring all assets are captured.
- Paying vendor invoices and tracking bank account balances.
- Completing VAT returns with the help of the accountant.
- Verifying the accuracy of business accounts and alerting the accountant of errors.
- Own FP&A and modelling activities. Help set budgets.
- Provide detailed analysis of revenue and cost KPI trends.
- Managing employee expense claims.
- Providing administrative and clerical support as needed.
- Additional bookkeeping duties as designated by management.
- Actively find ways to cut costs and be frugal
Requirements
- Proficiency in accounting software:Experience with QuickBooks, Xero, or similar bookkeeping software is crucial.
- Strong computer skills:This includes experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and data entry.
- Ability to reconcile accounts:Able to accurately compare and verify financial records.
- Attention to detail:Accuracy is paramount in bookkeeping to ensure reliable financial records.
- Organizational skills:Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, requiring strong organizational abilities.
- Communication skills:Effective communication with clients, vendors, and other team members is important.
- Problem-solving skills:Able to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data.
- Integrity and discretion:Handling sensitive financial information requires honesty and confidentiality.
- Time management:Being able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines is crucial.
- Relevant experience:Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related field is preferred.
Hours
- Clinic hours: 08:00 – 19:00 Monday through Sunday.
- Hours of work: 40 hours per week, predominantly Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:30 (with a 1-hour unpaid break) but flexibility required on occasions.
- 5.6 weeks per calendar year, inclusive of public holidays.
