The Company is extremely well established with over 85 years of manufacturing experience and is a truly British manufacturer, privately owned with over 150 people on site in Middlewich. They are looking to expand their engineering team once again due to increased growth in their market share.

The Role
- Be an active member of the Engineering Leadership Team taking a lead role in driving performance, encouraging best practice and success.
- Work towards delivery of the Engineering 5-year strategy supporting the business vision.
- Own the Site Services strategy and roadmap for utilities, buildings, and critical services; align with production, food safety, quality, and business continuity needs.
- Lead and develop a small internal maintenance/utilities team (skills matrix, training plans, task competency, succession, and performance management).
- Always demonstrate safe behaviour and conform to all safe systems of work.
- Manage contractors and service providers pre-qualification, competency checks, RAMS review, permits-to-work, site inductions, supervision, and performance against SLAs.
- Own the permit-to-work and LOTO systems across all high-risk activities (hot work, confined space, work at height, electrical isolation, pressure systems, etc.).
- Plan and deliver CAPEX and OPEX for utilities, fabric, and infrastructure business cases, ROI/NPV, tendering, and contractor selection.
- Set and track KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance, statutory compliance, energy/water intensity, cost-to-serve, contractor performance).
- Lead a culture that enhances awareness to reduce accidents and near misses.
- Ensure legal compliance with relevant UK H&S law.
- Steam generation & distribution: operate boilers safely and efficiently; water treatment, blowdown optimisation, condensate return, trap surveys, insulation integrity.
- Steam boilers & pressure systems: maintain a Written Scheme of Examination, coordinate competent person statutory inspections, remedial actions, and records (PSSR).
- Compressed air systems: leakage detection/repair programme, dew point control, filtration at points of use, heat recovery opportunities, and energy optimisation.
- Legionella control: manage L8/HTM/Guidance compliance for water systems risk assessment, sampling, flushing, temperature controls, and remedials.
- Refrigeration: maintaining plant for temperature/humidity control and product integrity, ensure F-Gas compliance, leak checks, records; assess DSEAR zoning; emergency planning and ammonia response.
- Electrical infrastructure: coordinate with site electrical duty holders on HV/LV maintenance, UPS/backup generation, and power quality.
- Maintain LOLER register of lifting equipment and liaise with competent persons for statutory inspections.
- Contractor control: robust RAMS, method statements, & supervision.
- Emergency preparedness: utilities failures, fire, steam/pressure excursions, power loss.
- Energy & carbon management: track and improve energy usage (kWh/tonne), water consumption, steam efficiency; support sustainability objectives and reduction plans.
- Pollution prevention: control of emissions, noise, effluent; oil/fuel management; oversee routine inspections and corrective actions.
- Carry out duties ensuring the site achieves and maintains required GMP standards.
- Take the lead in compliance audits & create corrective action plans for non-compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 9001, and FSSC 22000; maintain procedures, risk controls, records, and evidence for internal/external audits.
- Work management: triage, plan, schedule, and close work orders; prioritise by risk/impact; ensure failure codes and quality of feedback.
- Planned Maintenance (PM): build risk-based PM routines for boilers, compressors, dryers/filters, refrigeration packs, chillers, AHUs, air handlers, and building fabric.
- Identify own training needs and with Site Manager & agree a time plan for achieving this.
