Framestore is an Oscar, Bafta, and Emmy award-winning global creative company working across film, advertising, AR/MR/VR, theme park attractions, and pre/post visualisation, among many other creative endeavours. These are supported by Framestore’s state-of-the-art products, tools and pipeline; built, maintained and managed by our in-house Technology team of developers, programmers and engineers.

Framestore’s Pre-Production Services division enables filmmakers and showrunners to make early-stage, creative decisions that can then guide their entire production; working independently as well as supporting the work of Framestore’s Film, TV, VR and Interactive Advertising departments.

Framestore Pre-Production Services is expanding its Virtual Production team and is recruiting a Virtual Production Technical Director for its London studio. The Virtual Production TD will be responsible for the fluent running of virtual camera and virtual scouting sessions and/or virtual production stages for acquiring in-camera VFX. In addition, they will also be responsible for assembling scenes for virtual scouting and virtual camera shoots, as well as being a key stakeholder in the continuous development of the VP pipeline.

Our ideal candidate for this role will need to be an excellent communicator and team player, have professional experience across a variety of Virtual Production technologies, including hardware and software and will be flexible as the work can be on-set or remote in the UK with requirements for travel on a show basis. This is a UK-based role and unfortunately, we are not able to provide VISAs at this time.

What you’ll do:

  • Assist supervisor and artist on shows
  • Prepare and run virtual scouting and virtual camera sessions
  • Equipment set-up, upkeep and maintenance
  • Data management as per Framestore’s folder structure and templates
  • Ensure and maintain hardware is correctly set up and calibrated
  • Contribute to the development of virtual production products
  • Deliver within schedule to meet deadlines

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong knowledge of game engines and realtime rendering
  • Experience Onset in an operational capacity
  • Experience with nDisplay / ICVFX
  • Experience working with blueprints/ coding
  • Experience setting up/maintaining version control
  • Previous experience in film, TV or games
  • Intermediate to advanced-level user of Maya and/or Houdini
  • Experience with VR/AR equipment
  • Great time management
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

You might also have:

  • Experience with motion capture systems
  • Understanding of cameras and cinematography principles
  • Experience with client-facing work
