As a Senior Residential Care Practitioner, you will take on a key shift‑leadership position, managing a staff team on shift while providing a therapeutic, safe, structured environment for looked‑after young people.

The Role

You will work alongside a senior co‑worker in a 2‑bed children’s residential home and act as a strong role model for both young people and care staff, mentoring junior team members while upholding outstanding safeguarding practices.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage shifts to ensure a stable, safe, and positive home environment.
  • Supervise, support, and mentor Residential Care Practitioners.
  • Assist with care planning, risk assessments, and daily handovers.
  • Support young people with education, daily routines, and emotional well‑being.
  • Attend mandatory training and team meetings to contribute to the home’s development.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualifications: Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, Level 4 in Children, Young People and Families Practitioner, Level 3 in Health and Social Care, or a higher relevant qualification.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year’s experience supervising a team or leading shifts within a children’s residential home.
  • Sector knowledge: Strong experience and practical knowledge of working with children in residential care frameworks.
  • Driving licence: Full UK driving licence.

Working Hours & Shift Patterns

56.5 hours per week, averaging 10 shifts per month. 3‑week rolling rota; shift times 07:30 to 22:30, plus overnight sleep‑in and a 30‑minute handover next morning. Total hours include 244.5 hours per month across shifts, mandatory training sessions, and team meetings.
