A Waking Night Support Worker is required for a children's residential home in Newcastle-under-Lyme, supporting young people with complex needs and learning disabilities. This role involves providing a stable, safe, and highly supportive environment during night-time hours.
The Role
- Remain awake throughout the night to ensure the home remains safe and secure.
- Support children with learning disabilities and complex needs according to their care plans.
- Monitor the comfort and safety of young people throughout the night.
- Complete essential night-time domestic duties, including cleaning and laundry.
- Carry out and accurately document health, safety, and security checks.
- Complete detailed waking night logs, daily notes, and incident reports.
- Provide clear, comprehensive handovers to the incoming day staff team.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children or adults with learning disabilities or complex needs is highly desirable.
- NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is an advantage, though not essential.
- Ability to work waking night shifts reliably on a fixed roster.
- Strong communication skills, patience, and a calm, person-centred approach.
- A genuine passion, empathy, and resilience for supporting vulnerable young people.
- Commitment to upholding safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory policies.
Working Hours
Full-time hours on a fixed rolling rota. Shift Pattern: 2 nights on, followed by 4 days off. Hours: 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
