We are seeking a highly experienced Deputy Manager. You will play a vital role in leading a team to provide high-quality care and support to residents in a warm and friendly environment. The care home is a welcoming, homely environment that is purpose designed to meet the resident’s needs holistically and enable them to live meaningful lives. In this role, you will support the Registered Manager by taking responsibility for all areas of care, safeguarding and wellbeing. You will motivate and inspire your team to provide the highest quality person centred care in everything they do.
You will respond to the needs of each individual, acting in their best interests, developing care plans and taking the time to get to know residents' needs and preferences so that consistently high standards of care can be delivered. You should ensure that you and your team understand that the care home is the residents' home. At all times, staff should be mindful of this and prioritise the needs of residents and their loved ones. Your role will involve working directly with residents to attend to their care needs, whilst also deputising for the Registered Manager in their absence and taking responsibility for delegated tasks.
You and your team will participate in regular training and demonstrate professionalism, kindness and respect towards residents, colleagues, visitors and healthcare professionals, embodying the Company's values and standards in everything you do.
Key Duties and Responsibilities- Person Centred Care
- Ensure service users remain at the heart of all care delivery, meeting their wishes, preferences and enhancing their wellbeing.
- Undertake care tasks on a regular basis as required by the needs of the Home.
- Ensure Clients' Care Plans are completed, regularly reviewed and maintained in conjunction with Clients, Relatives and Healthcare Professionals, in accordance with CQC requirements and Company policies.
- Contribute to the care planning process and support the Manager in ensuring care plans reflect current needs and best practice.
- Report any ill health amongst Clients and request GP or other professional visits where necessary.
- Establish and maintain positive communication with Clients, Relatives and the multidisciplinary team.
- Leadership and Management
- Deputise for the Registered Manager during their absence whilst supporting the decisions made by the Manager.
- Support the Manager to ensure policies, procedures, working practices and instructions are understood and implemented.
- Positively support the Manager in providing leadership to the administration, care, catering, housekeeping, laundry and maintenance teams.
- Provide professional and managerial support to all staff within the Home.
- Participate in and lead meetings as required.
- Effectively communicate the aims and objectives of the service through verbal communication, written communication and by personal example.
- Liaise regularly with Head Office, ensuring necessary information is communicated promptly and effectively.
- Provide administrative support where required.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Support the Manager in completing audits to ensure compliance and the smooth running of the service.
- Ensure all records required by CQC and other governing bodies are accurate, up to date and maintained in accordance with legislation.
- Ensure the Company Complaints Procedure is understood, publicised and applied in a way that enables residents to raise concerns openly and without fear of victimisation.
- Ensure health, safety and wellbeing standards are maintained for residents, staff and visitors, reporting concerns to the Manager or Head Office without delay.
- Carry out regular walk rounds of the Home to identify maintenance issues, inspect cleanliness and ensure the safety and security of the building.
- Understand and ensure implementation of the Home's Health and Safety Policy, Emergency Procedures and Fire Procedures.
- Report any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or potential hazards immediately.
- Safeguarding and Incident Management
- Report immediately to the Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident involving a resident, colleague, yourself or another person.
- As directed by the Manager, investigate complaints or adult safeguarding concerns raised by residents or relatives and report findings appropriately.
- As directed by the Manager, investigate injuries sustained by residents whilst in the care of the Home and report serious incidents as required.
- Staffing and People Management
- Support the Manager in delivering staff supervisions.
- Provide additional support when staffing issues arise by conducting investigations and holding welfare meetings where appropriate.
- Support the recruitment and selection of staff in accordance with Company policies and relevant legislation.
- Implement training and development plans to improve the skills and competencies of team members.
- Ensure all Staff Members contribute to the efficient running of the Home and the creation of an atmosphere that promotes the best interests of residents.
- Admissions and Occupancy
- Support the Manager in maintaining maximum occupancy levels.
- Attend assessments where appropriate to determine the suitability of prospective residents.
- Support visits for potential residents, families and friends, explaining the philosophy of care and daily life within the Home.
- Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain your professional knowledge, skills and competencies through ongoing training and development.
- Work as part of the Home's management on call rota, providing telephone support outside normal working hours.
- Attend the Home outside normal working hours where necessary to provide additional support and guidance.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role, as required by the Company.
Candidate Profile We are looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience within a similar role and service.
- A minimum of NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
- A committed, organised and proactive approach.
- Availability to participate in the management on call rota.
- A compassionate and empathetic approach towards elderly residents and their families.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Competent IT skills and confidence using a range of computer systems.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
