We are recruiting for a Court Usher to support the smooth running of court hearings in Southampton. This is a vital public-facing role where you\’ll be the first point of contact for court users, ensuring hearings are well-organised and run efficiently.

We are recruiting for a Court Usher to support the smooth running of court hearings in Southampton. This is a vital public-facing role where you\’ll be the first point of contact for court users, ensuring hearings are well-organised and run efficiently.

The Role

  • Welcoming and supporting members of the public, legal representatives, and court users.
  • Preparing and clearing courtrooms for hearings.
  • Escorting participants and calling people into court in the correct order.
  • Handling administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, post handling, and updating records.
  • Supporting the judiciary and court staff with documents, forms, and clerical work.
  • Providing information to court users and dealing with enquiries in a professional and sensitive manner.

What We\’re Looking For

  • Strong communication and people skills, with the ability to stay professional under pressure.
  • Comfortable working with people from all backgrounds, including vulnerable individuals.
  • Basic IT and administration skills.
  • Previous public service or customer-facing experience is desirable.

  • Location: Southampton (must be fully on-site. On-site parking can be arranged).
  • Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week), temporary ongoing (initially 3 months, with likely extension).
  • Pay: Β£12.21 per hour.
  • Clearance: The Court Usher role requires an enhanced disclosure check.
