Brook Street is recruiting an Administrative Officer to join Snaresbrook Crown Court, part of the Ministry of Justice, on a temporary contract until August 2026.

Role Overview

  • Position: Administrative Officer
  • Duration: Temporary assignment until August 2026
  • Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday
  • Pay: £15.19 per hour
  • Agency: Brook Street (temp contract)

Snaresbrook Crown Court handles some of the most serious criminal cases. As an Admin Officer, you will play a key role in keeping the court running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Court System Management: Maintain and operate court systems, ensuring all data is accurate and compliant. Review newly committed cases to identify vulnerabilities, such as youth status, mental health concerns, or custody requirements.
  • General Administration: Handle day-to-day administrative tasks including counter enquiries, phone calls, emails, and filing. Support courtrooms during live sittings and assist at the public counter.
  • Communication: Serve as a professional point of contact for judiciary members, court staff, barristers, defendants, media, and the public, both in person and via phone or email.
  • Process court orders, create digital case files, and manage documentation such as bail applications and certificates of conviction.
  • Scan, upload, and manage documents in electronic systems.
  • Schedule hearings, serve court documents, execute warrants, and manage fines/fees.
  • Liaise professionally with judiciary members, court staff, barristers, defendants, media, and the public.
  • Assist senior staff with ad-hoc administrative tasks.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong IT proficiency, including Excel and Microsoft.
  • Administration work experience required.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.

  • Office-based role; remote working is not available.
  • Handling sensitive information, which may occasionally be distressing.
  • Successful candidates will undergo security checks (approx. 2-3 weeks).
