We have a new opportunity for a Systems Accountant to join our team, based in Avonmouth with hybrid working, 37.5 hours per week. We encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early if we receive a high number of applications.
The role sits within the Accounting, Reporting and Controls (ARC) team, reporting directly to the Head of Accounting, Reporting and Control. This role is designed to be approximately 60% finance systems focused, and 40% core accounting focused. The postholder will act as a key bridge between Finance, Accounting and Transformation teams, helping ensure core systems, reporting tools and connected Excel models are reliable, efficient and used to their maximum potential.
Working across a number of finance systems and tools including D365, Anaplan, Power BI and finance-owned Excel reporting files that draw directly from these databases. The postholder will drive process improvement, strengthen data quality, support automation, and help integrate AI-enabled ways of working into day-to-day finance activity. The role will help keep the Finance function at the forefront of technology while continuing to contribute to month-end reporting, accounting processes included in the wider ARC deliverables.
The successful candidate will:
- Act as the finance systems lead within the wider finance function, supporting the effective use, development and optimisation of all finance tools including but not limited to: D365, Anaplan, Power BI and finance-owned Excel reporting files connected to source system data.
- Work closely with the Transformation team, Finance Business Partners, Accounting teams and other stakeholders to identify opportunities to simplify, automate and improve finance processes, reporting and controls.
- Support the design, testing and implementation of system changes, enhancements and integrations, ensuring finance requirements are clearly understood, appropriately documented and properly validated before deployment.
- Drive better use of data and reporting tools by improving data quality, standardising reporting outputs, enhancing Power BI dashboards and helping users access reliable, self-service information.
- Help integrate AI-enabled tools and automation into finance activities, including opportunities across journals, reconciliations, workflow approvals, variance analysis, exception reporting and management reporting.
- Maintain and improve key Excel-based reporting models that connect to D365, Anaplan or other source databases, ensuring they remain controlled, efficient, documented and fit for purpose.
- Contribute to month-end close and core accounting activities, including journals, reconciliations, analysis, review of financial information, audit support and support for Finance Business Partners as required.
- Support the internal controls environment by helping ensure system processes, access, workflows and reporting outputs are appropriately controlled, documented and aligned to finance governance requirements.
- Provide training, guidance and practical support to finance users to improve systems capability, adoption of new tools and consistent ways of working across the Finance function.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of finance systems, accounting processes and financial reporting requirements. You will possess advanced Excel skills, including controlled reporting models, Power Query or similar data transformation techniques. Working knowledge of ERP, planning and reporting platforms, ideally D365, Anaplan and Power BI is preferred.
Your skills will include strong analytical, problem-solving and process improvement. You will have the ability to translate finance requirements into practical systems, reporting or data solutions. Using your excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively between Finance, Accounting and Transformation teams. ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified or Degree qualified or equivalent experience is essential.
