Our Vision is to be the UK’s leading innovator of resource recovery and recycling, transforming waste for a climate-positive future. Viridor has a redefined purpose, a bold Vision, and an ambitious, market-leading strategy. We are investing in the future, and we need a talented team with exceptional people, who believe in each other, to help us build a world where nothing goes to waste.

We have a new opportunity for a Risk Analyst to join our team, hybrid working based in Avonmouth, working 37.5 hours per week. We encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early if we receive a high number of applications.

The role sits within the Accounting, Reporting and Controls (ARC) team reporting to the Energy Compliance and Settlements Manager. The ARC team is responsible for financial reporting across Viridor. The team works closely with the Finance Business Partners to interpret financial information and deliver a smooth month-end close every month.

In addition, ARC maintains the internal controls framework and facilitates the entire Viridor Energy group's risk management activities through the regular review of risk registers to ensure risks are adequately documented, mitigated where possible, and managed. The role will have split responsibilities over Risk, Internal Controls and Energy Compliance.

Working directly with members of the Energy Leadership Team (ELT), the postholder will challenge existing assumptions, drive a more forward-looking approach to risk management, and ensure emerging strategic, operational, financial, regulatory and market risks are identified well in advance of potential impact. The role will act as the central coordinator and subject matter expert for risk management across the division, supporting the development of a strong risk-aware culture and ensuring risks are effectively owned, mitigated and escalated where appropriate.

Supplementing the role's risk management activities there will be a dotted line into the Internal Audit Manager, providing specialist support and resource capacity to the delivery of the internal audit plan, while helping strengthen the overall control and governance environment across the business.

The Successful candidate will:

  • Own and update quarterly risk registers across the Energy division, working directly with senior stakeholders and risk owners (e.g. Commercial, Major Contracts, Finance, ESG, Health & Safety) to review, challenge and agree updates.
  • Prepare risk reporting for the Energy Leadership Team, Executive leadership, Boards and Audit Committees as required.
  • Support the Internal Audit Manager in the ongoing development and maintenance of the internal control’s framework, ensuring controls are documented, kept up to date and robustly tested.
  • Assist with the delivery of internal audit activities, including walkthroughs and testing of controls, helping to identify gaps and support remediation actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of risk management processes, tools and reporting.
  • Contribute to wider ARC activities, such as Energy Settlement and Compliance processes.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in developing management reporting and executive-level presentations and producing report writing and analysis to present to finance and non-finance colleagues. You will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders constructively. You will be qualified in ACA / ACCA / CIMA (or equivalent) and/or hold a relevant degree.

We are a Great Place to Work. There has never been a more exciting time to work at Viridor. Following the acquisition of the business by the global private equity firm, KKR, the core business has been reshaped to focus on our leading UK Energy from Waste portfolio.
