We have a new opportunity for a Engineering & Capex Finance Business Partner to join our team, based in Avonmouth, working 37.5 hours per week. The salary for this role will be circa 70,000 per year with participation in an annual bonus scheme, and a car allowance in addition to our great range of benefits. This role will be based in Avonmouth, with an opportunity for hybrid working - this will be discussed further at interview.

What you’ll be doing:
- Capital expenditure planning & forecasting
- Lead the annual Group capital expenditure budgeting process, including oversight of annual lifecycle investment papers across the ERF fleet.
- Coordinate monthly and quarterly capex forecasts in partnership with site Finance Business Partners.
- Provide clear visibility of actual spend, committed expenditure and forecast outturn.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities, recommending appropriate mitigating actions.
- Maintain robust capital reporting, controls and governance.
- Long-term lifecycle planning
- Own and coordinate the Group’s long-term lifecycle investment plan for the ERF fleet.
- Partner with Engineering and Operations to understand future asset replacement, refurbishment and upgrade requirements.
- Translate engineering investment plans into robust financial models covering 5, 10 and 20-year horizons.
- Help prioritise investment based on asset condition, operational risk, business impact and financial return.
- Evaluate significant investment decisions, including major equipment overhauls and plant upgrades.
- Ensure investment plans support our strategic objectives, funding requirements and long-term shareholder value.
- Finance business partnering
- Act as the principal Finance Business Partner for the Engineering function and its management team.
- Build strong, trusted relationships with Engineering, Operations, Finance, Procurement and site leadership.
- Provide constructive financial challenge and support for investment proposals.
- Turn technical requirements and complex financial information into clear, commercially focused recommendations.
- Help develop a financially aware investment culture across our Engineering teams.
- Investment appraisal
- Develop and review business cases for major capital projects alongside our Finance Business Partners.
- Undertake NPV, IRR, payback and sensitivity analysis to assess investment opportunities.
- Evaluate strategic options and support investment prioritisation.
- Produce clear recommendations to support Executive and Board decisions.
- Lead post-investment appraisal, tracking benefits against approved business cases and capturing lessons learned from major projects.
- Governance, reporting & continuous improvement
- Prepare high-quality investment reporting for Executive Leadership, Investment Committee and Board reviews.
- Monitor expenditure against approved budgets and authorisations.
- Ensure compliance with Group capital governance requirements.
- Maintain oversight of project financial performance and investment returns.
- Continuously improve capex and lifecycle planning, forecasting and reporting processes.
- Work with FP&A, Finance, Engineering and IT colleagues to improve data quality, automation and reporting efficiency.
- Support wider finance transformation initiatives.
What we’re looking for:
You’ll be an experienced finance professional who combines strong financial analysis with excellent business partnering skills. You’ll be comfortable challenging senior stakeholders, working with operational and technical teams and turning detailed information into clear recommendations.
Essential experience and skills
- Strong Finance Business Partnering and management accounting experience.
- Experience within a capital-intensive industry.
- Proven experience developing and managing capital budgets and forecasts.
- Strong commercial and business analysis capability.
- Experience building effective relationships with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong report writing and analytical skills, including presenting recommendations to senior and Executive-level audiences.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills and experience using integrated accounting and business reporting systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence to influence, constructively challenge and support decision making.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with experience coordinating budgeting or forecasting processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality, C-suite-ready outputs.
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to influence, coach and motivate others.

- Experience within Energy from Waste, power generation or a related industry.
- Investment appraisal and post-project appraisal experience.
- Experience of major capital projects and maintenance outage cycles.
- Microsoft Power BI experience.

- Experience within a Private Equity-owned business and an understanding of shareholder value creation.
