Viridor is at the forefront of waste management and resource recovery in the UK, operating the largest network of Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs). We play a crucial role in supporting the UK's climate goals by diverting waste from landfills and transforming it into valuable energy resources.
We have an opportunity at our ERF in Runcorn for a Safety & Compliance Manager to join our team working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The salary for this role is competitive and participation in an annual bonus scheme, in addition to our great range of benefits. The closing date for applications is 30th April 2026. Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor safety systems, procedures and safe systems of work (SSOW).
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits or licenses and interpret emissions data.
- Develop working plans and auditing processes to maintain a highly compliant, quality-led environment with safety at its core.
- Actively monitor, maintain and manage health and safety risk assessments, SSOWs and method statements to ensure best practice and prevention of incidents and accidents.
- Collaborate with the Plant Manager and site team to maintain high productivity while upholding health, safety and environmental compliance at all times.
What we are looking for
- Experience in an energy from waste facility (advantageous).
- Experience in a highly regulated, compliance-focused environment.
- Strong leadership skills to lead and develop a new team in a start-up scenario with a no-compromise approach to HSE; ability to embed a safety and compliance culture within a complex workplace.
- Experience of permitted/regulated activities and processes, preferably within a controlled emissions environment.
- Knowledge and experience of Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
- Knowledge of the energy from waste/power industry, including legislative knowledge.
- IOSH/NEBOSH safety qualification (or equivalent).
- Aware of management standards OHSAS18001, ISO18001, ISO14001 and ISO50001.
- Thorough understanding of environmental regulation and technical aspects of waste management.
- Full UK driving licence.
