Job Purpose
The Maintenance Operative is responsible for carrying out day-to-day maintenance tasks across the site to ensure the property is kept in excellent condition and operates safely and efficiently. This includes undertaking minor repairs, supporting planned maintenance schedules, and responding to reactive maintenance requests promptly.
About the role
- Carry out a range of maintenance duties including basic plumbing, joinery, decorating, and electrical work.
- Respond to and complete reactive maintenance tickets within agreed SLAs.
- Conduct regular inspections and report any defects or safety concerns.
- Support with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks as directed.
- Maintain clean and safe plant rooms, workshops, and storage areas.
- Ensure tools and equipment are used safely and stored correctly.
- Liaise with contractors and external engineers when required.
- Assist with moves, set-ups, or furniture assembly across the site.
- Provide support during site emergencies, including occasional out-of-hours response if required.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times.
About you
Essential:- Proven experience in a maintenance, facilities, or building services role.
- Good working knowledge of general building maintenance (e.g., plumbing, painting, carpentry).
- Understanding of health and safety standards and safe working practices.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Relevant trade qualifications or training (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ).
- Experience working in student accommodation, residential, or commercial environments.
- Basic IT skills for using maintenance reporting systems or ticketing platforms.
Additional Information:
This role may require occasional weekend or evening work. Uniform and tools provided where applicable. DBS check will be required.
