We produce tailored products and customised solutions in pursuit of providing a deeper understanding of the Earthβs subsurface structures. Our subsurface imaging specialists are constantly pushing the boundaries to map subsurface structures using imaging techniques based on applied physics. Our global network of centres provides region-specific expertise, outstanding service and remarkable technology in every image. The images produced of the subsurface are currently primarily used for exploration, production and optimisation of oil and gas reservoirs; however, we are also exploring the use of complex subsurface imaging for new markets such as carbon capture or mining.
Responsibilities
- As a geophysical researcher you will develop, implement, test, and support new algorithms to improve imaging of the subsurface. This will include algorithm validation on synthetic and real datasets to stress test the proposed approach.
- You will support the rollout of new technology through internal presentations and user support, as well as promote new technologies to clients through scientific publications and presentations.
- You will need to continuously stay abreast of technology, in order to develop and improve research activities for business units and clients.
Qualifications
- Educated to a PhD degree level in Geophysics, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics or related technical discipline.
Competencies
- Excellent coding skills are essential for this role, particularly C/C++ or FORTRAN and preferably knowledge of high-performance computation (MPI, multi-threading, GPU etc.).
- Strong mathematics skills, as you must be capable of abstracting geophysical concepts with mathematical languages.
- Great analytical, problem-solving and attention to detail skills.
- Knowledge of seismic processing/imaging is desirable but not essential.
- Experience in wave propagation, linear or non-linear inversion is a plus.
