Viridi is seeking an experienced Polymer Chemist to design and build functional CO2-based polymers for target applications. Working alongside dedicated experts, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute directly to projects which offer radical sustainable solutions for the global supply chain. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellence in theoretical and practical polymer chemistry and will be able to apply this knowledge in a busy lab-based setting in order to meet the requirements of our client base.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, synthesise and develop novel, CO2-based polymers to meet our clients’ technical requirements.
  • Analyse and assess produced polymers for quality control.
  • Work closely with the executive team to present data/analyses and provide detailed progress reports.
  • Search literature to help in the design of synthetic routes.
  • Maintain a creative, problem‑solving mindset with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ensure company compliance with all Health, Safety and Environment policies.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • A degree, MSc, PhD or equivalent qualification incorporating aspects of Chemistry, Polymer Science, or related subject.
  • Experience in either academic research or industry.
  • Experience in using organic synthesis to build and functionalise CO2-based polymers to meet target applications.
  • Excellence in theoretical and practical polymer chemistry and ability to plan and execute reactions independently, with high levels of productivity.
  • Research expertise in material characterisation (NMR, GPC, FT-IR, etc.).
  • Record accurate and complete experimental methods and results.
  • A flexible approach to your work, including the ability to turn your hand to many activities in the lab with a commitment to quality and scientific excellence.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse data and produce clear, concise reports for use across the company.
  • Ability to commute to the University of Southampton or willingness to move within commutable distance.
