The Physical Therapist Clinician II is primarily responsible for the delivery of physical therapy care to the patient population to which she/he is assigned and the recording of that care in the hospital medical record. The therapist acts as a consultant to various patient populations. The Physical Therapist Clinician II provides instruction to OT/PT support staff, PT students, personnel of other disciplines within VCUHS, and patient and/or family members. Therapists may rotate through our various clinical service areas.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist, Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area.
Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Physical Therapist.
Education/training REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy.
Education/training PREFERRED: Masters or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Physical Therapy, Successful challenge of the VCUHS Physical Therapy Clinical Ladder.
Independent action(s) required: Patient evaluation and implementation of intervention programs, discharge planning, ordering equipment, representing department at rounds and discharge conferences, scheduling and charging patients.
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Employee may have supervisory responsibilities of Physical Therapist Assistants, Patient Care Technicians, students, and volunteers. Employee is a member of a self-directed team and applies his/her knowledge and experience in daily clinic problem solving. The team will bring unresolved issues to departmental manager for assistance and guidance in their resolution.
Additional position requirements: Employee is expected to share in weekend and holiday schedule expectations of the department or have a fluctuation of daily work hours from 8 AM to 7 PM based on patient population needs.

Physical Requirements: Physical - Lifting 50-100 lbs. Activities: Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive), Repetitive motion. Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking. Emotional: Fast pace environment, Steady pace, Able to handle multiple priorities, Frequent and intense customer interactions, Noisy environment, Able to adapt to frequent change.
