The Fleet Learning Program Manager plays a critical role in strengthening capability across the Virgin Voyages fleet by translating learning and talent development strategy into effective shipboard execution. This role leads the development and deployment of operational, service, and role-based learning programs that support onboarding, capability development, and consistent service delivery across all ships.
Partnering closely with operational leaders, shipboard learning teams, Quality Assurance, and Talent Development, the Fleet Learning Program Manager ensures learning programs are operationally relevant, consistently delivered, and continuously improved to drive crew performance and elevate the Sailor experience.
This gig is based at VVHQ - our swanky Virgin Voyages Head Office in Plantation, FL where we follow a hybrid work environment. We can’t wait to 'sea' you in person during our Collaboration Days, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, while you enjoy Mondays and Fridays as remote days.
What You’ll Be Up To:
- Fleet Learning Program Ownership
- Owns the development and evolution of shipboard operational and service capability programs, including role-specific onboarding, operational skill development, and service excellence training initiatives across the fleet.
- Leads the design of position-based learning journeys that support onboarding and development for shipboard roles across hotel, marine, and technical operations, partnering with instructional design teams to build scalable learning solutions.
- Oversees the ongoing evolution of Virgin Voyages’ service capability programs, ensuring crew members consistently deliver service experiences aligned with brand standards.
- Partners on the design and deployment of shipboard leadership development programs, ensuring initiatives translate effectively into the shipboard environment and can be delivered consistently across ships.
- Partners closely with shipboard Quality Assurance, operational leaders, and Talent Development to identify performance gaps and translate insights into targeted capability-building programs.
- Fleet Learning Deployment & Activation
- Translates corporate learning and talent development initiatives into effective shipboard deployment strategies, ensuring programs are implemented consistently across all ships.
- Develops and manages fleet-wide program deployment frameworks, including communication plans, facilitator guides, operational playbooks, and reinforcement tools that support successful implementation onboard.
- Partners with Shipboard T&D Managers and Service Training Managers to plan, coordinate, and execute learning initiatives across the fleet.
- Establishes structured reporting mechanisms to track learning program adoption, progress, and operational impact across ships.
- Learning Delivery Consistency & Standards
- Establishes facilitation standards for key shipboard learning programs to ensure consistent delivery and alignment with program objectives.
- Periodically observes training sessions across ships to ensure delivery aligns with program design and intended learning outcomes.
- Provides coaching and feedback to shipboard Training & Development Managers and Service Training Managers to strengthen facilitation effectiveness.
- Identifies patterns in training delivery across ships and recommends improvements to strengthen consistency and learning impact across the fleet.
- Learning Feedback & Continuous Improvement
- Collects and synthesizes feedback from shipboard learning leaders, operational stakeholders, and learners to continuously improve learning programs and deployment approaches.
- Monitors program effectiveness using performance data, survey insights, and operational metrics to inform program enhancements and future capability investments.
- Prepares fleet learning performance summaries and program insights that inform leadership decisions and future learning priorities.
Superpowers Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Learning & Development, Hospitality Management, Human Resources, Education, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
- 6–8 years of progressive experience in learning & development, operational training, capability development, or talent development within a complex operational or service-driven environment.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing role-based training programs or capability-building initiatives that improve performance and operational outcomes.
- Experience deploying learning programs across multiple locations or operational environments (e.g., fleet operations, hospitality operations, multi-site organizations, or global teams).
- Proven success leading end-to-end learning initiatives, including program design, deployment planning, stakeholder alignment, and measurement of impact.
- Ability to translate operational performance data, quality assurance insights, and feedback into targeted capability development programs.
- Ability to analyze learning metrics and operational data to assess program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles, behaviour change, and capability development methodologies.
- Experience coaching learning facilitators, trainers, or operational leaders to strengthen program delivery and facilitation effectiveness.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex initiatives involving multiple partners, including learning design teams, operational leaders, and quality assurance groups.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse, global audiences.
- Excellent project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to establish credibility with operational leaders and shipboard learning teams.
- High level of adaptability and comfort operating in fast-paced, evolving environments.
- Ability to travel internationally up to 35% to support shipboard learning initiatives, observe training delivery, and partner with shipboard learning leaders across the fleet.
