As a Data Engineer at Virgin Media O₂, you’ll play a key role in designing, building and optimising scalable data pipelines and tools that power high‑quality, trusted data across the business. Working within our Data Platforms team, you’ll help ensure teams can access the insights they need to make better decisions, supporting services used by millions of customers. In this role you’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders, architects and engineers to deliver robust, efficient data solutions on Google Cloud Platform. You’ll contribute to improving engineering practices, automate processes, and maintain high standards of reliability and performance. From developing real‑time and batch pipelines to enhancing internal tooling, you’ll continuously look for ways to improve platform capability and drive innovation.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and optimise scalable data pipelines and tools on GCP.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, architects and engineers to deliver robust data solutions.
- Automate data processes and maintain reliability and performance standards.
- Develop real‑time and batch pipelines and enhance internal tooling.
- Identify opportunities to improve platform capability and drive innovation.
Required Qualifications
- Strong Python skills with proven data‑engineering experience.
- Advanced SQL skills, including analytics and data quality practices.
- Hands‑on experience with GCP services such as BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub and Cloud Functions.
- Experience building and managing production data pipelines and data‑warehouse solutions.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices including CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Apache Airflow or Cloud Composer for orchestration.
- Exposure to Agile ways of working.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes or Dataflow.
- Familiarity with software engineering principles such as SOLID or TDD.
- Experience working with distributed or key‑value data stores.
