We have a great new opportunity for a Principal IP Core Designer to join our Core Engineering function.
This is a key role to provide technical leadership and direction in how new products and services can be most optimally implemented across the Core Network domain .
You will be tasked with supporting Major Programmes , which could include:
- Technology Refresh/Hardware Upgrades
- Network Transformation
- Integrating the VM and O2 Networks
- Support to Operations – Fault investigation/Troubleshooting/Network Analysis
- Site Exits
- Data Centre work
- Security Projects
- Automation
- Lab testing and troubleshooting
Key responsibilities
Discovery - Understanding High Level Architecture, requirements, failover, capacity, quality, and building a framework for the solution in the form of the HLD.
Test – Often combined with the discovery phase, the testing phase aims to prove and facilitate improvements on the specifics of the solution and demonstrate that the end-to-end solution functions as expected in production.
Design – Formalizing the design by documenting the key points in a format that downstream teams can use, such as a design template. This allows for site-specific information to be added for full roll-out, known as the Core Solutions Design.
Support – Assisting with First of Type implementations, training for downstream teams, performing Proof of Concept testing to investigate faults, and supporting production issues.

The must haves
- Extensive experience in an IP-based technical High Level Design role
- Experience working in a Service Provider network environment
- Deep knowledge of BGP, MPLS, MP-BGP, IS-IS, QoS/Traffic Engineering, IPv6, VPNs, Ethernet (VPWS/VPLS, Dot1Q, QinQ)
- Experience with Juniper, Cisco, and Nokia platforms and OS
- Strong experience in designing, integrating, and deploying security solutions in a dynamic, high-pressure environment
The other stuff we are looking for
- JNCIP+ / CCNP+ / NRS-II+ accreditation beneficial
- JNCIE/CCIE preferred
- Strong communication skills, ability to build business relationships across multiple locations
- Timeliness and quality consciousness in actions and services
- Experience analyzing, assessing, and resolving complex technical issues
