This role sits within Technology & Platforms which is responsible for defining and maintaining the strategy and roadmap for all core technology platforms. This includes platform vision, prioritisation, and planning; financial management and investment; platform architecture design and assurance; and the definition and implementation of platform architecture standards. The function ensures platforms are robust, scalable, cost‑effective, and aligned with the overall business strategy, adapting to evolving needs and driving innovation. Technology & Platforms is split into Digital Workplace, BSS & Fixed B2B2C Wholesale, Core Engineering, Platform Engineering and Platform Innovation. This role sits with the Core Engineering division, which is accountable for providing oversight to core engineering platforms & their services, ensuring continual improvement.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and assure the design, build and maintenance of technology used by agents to interact with VMO2 customers and manage sales and service operations, including voice and chat capabilities.
- Oversee technology used for apps, digital identity management (ID) and subscription video on demand (SVOD).
- Oversee technology used to manage customer communications and consent to process customer personal data.
- Oversee technology used for the design, build and maintenance of microservices architecture, middleware and application programming interface (API) gateways, to allow software applications to communicate with each other.
- Oversee testing across Tech & Platforms.
- Accountable for the technical architecture of one or more critical IT platforms and for supporting the capabilities and design of the platform.
- Define the technical architecture patterns, anti‑patterns, capability roadmaps and sequence in alignment with the platform owner(s) and ESA / Enterprise Architecture Strategy.
- Govern the acceptance of these capabilities through a new design authority that allows the platform architect (and owners) to make an active choice on capabilities being proposed (ahead of implementation, during the implementation and release) to ensure alignment with platform architecture.
Qualifications
- Deep expertise in platform architecture and enterprise‑scale system design.
- Proven experience governing architecture through formal design authorities.
- Strong technical background with the ability to assure designs, builds and sizing estimates.
- Experience architecting for run services, including resilience, platform health and lifecycle management.
- Demonstrable experience managing technical escalations and resolving complex blockers.
- Experience across multiple platforms within a core engineering or customer‑facing domain.
- Strong understanding of non‑functional requirements and how to design for them.
- Experience working closely with vendors and third‑party partners.
- Proven collaboration with cross‑functional technical and business stakeholders.
- Openness to using AI, LLMs or automation to improve architectural ways of working.
