Overview
Virgin Media O2 is seeking a highly skilled Design System Expert on a fixed term basis. You will assess, shape, and implement the future of our central design system. This role is pivotal in ensuring our design practices are scalable, efficient, and aligned with the needs of our business, product, and engineering teams.
You’ll begin by conducting a comprehensive assessment of our current design system—analysing its structure, scalability, and adoption. You’ll then provide recommendations on whether it is fit for purpose, highlight gaps, and propose enhancements or a potential re-architecture. Once the strategy is agreed, you’ll lead the implementation, driving forward improvements, ensuring system governance, and embedding best practices to futureproof our design operations.

Must haves
In order to be considered, you must have the following experience;
- Proven experience in design system creation, governance, and implementation at scale.
- Deep knowledge of Figma, with practical experience using advanced features (Variables, Tokens, Auto Layout, Libraries).
- Strong understanding of the intersection between design and engineering workflows.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to balance long-term strategy and quick wins.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

- Experience working in enterprise or large-scale organizations (telco experience desirable, not essential).
- Ability to lead change, influence adoption, and implement governance processes
