egg Power - Liberty Global’s clean energy infrastructure investment business, is delivering renewable energy solutions to meet the fast-growing demand from businesses for affordable, secure and sustainable electricity in Europe. Its mission is to meet this need by investing in large-scale solar and wind projects to supply customers with clean energy under long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
This role forms part of the leadership team and will play a defining role in shaping the strategic direction, partnerships and long-term success of the business.
JOB PURPOSEThis is a highly diverse senior leadership role in an entrepreneurial, scale up business being incubated within Liberty Global at the forefront of the energy transition. The Commercial Director will act as a key strategic advisor and business leader, playing a central role in defining and delivering critical commercial activities, including PPA origination, route-to-market strategy and revenue stack. The initial ambition is to secure 1000 MW of projects/CPPAs across key countries and markets of focus including UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
The role provides senior strategic leadership to drive the company’s growth by developing and executing Egg Power’s corporate strategy. In addition to leading on egg’s CPPAs, the role will drive egg’s expansion into new revenue lines (BESS, Capacity Market, BtM) and own the market fundamentals and analysis function.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES- Lead the development and delivery of Egg Power’s commercial and route-to-market strategy, across solar, wind, BESS and private wire.
- Originate, structure, and negotiate CPPAs/BESS tolls and other commercial arrangements to secure long-term revenue.
- Monetise all future available revenue streams available to egg (Capacity Market, balancing, short term hedging).
- Monitor market developments and regulatory changes, ensuring implications are understood and reflected in commercial strategy.
- Oversee the commercial structuring of projects, ensuring alignment between offtake, funding requirements and delivery.
- Establish and maintain robust commercial risk management frameworks, covering pricing exposure, counterparty risk and regulatory impacts.
- Provide strategic leadership across project development, investment cases and revenue optimisation, including identification of new commercial opportunities.
- Help shape egg Power’s commercial positioning and value proposition to corporate offtakers.
- Lead commercial asset management of operational projects to drive enhanced financial, market and business performance.
- Relevant years renewable energy expertise from late-stage development to commercial operations.
- Recent CPPA experience with largest blue-chip buyers with extensive network of associated industry contacts.
- Experience in M&A of RtB/late-stage development energy assets.
- Commercial negotiation across all key contracts in renewable energy project businesses.
- Strong commercial and financial judgment applied to investment and risk decisions.
- Engagement with and commitment to ongoing learning about the evolving energy markets across Europe.
- Experience building and developing high-performing teams and supporting the growth of junior colleagues.
- Interpersonal skills and leadership presence.
- Bachelors or above in Engineering, Physics, Economics or similar.
- Relevant years energy market and renewable energy experience essential especially in the UK and Europe.
- Background in PPAs, power trading and project development across solar, wind and BESS.
- Experience of Private Equity or other Investment environments in the energy sector.
- Fluent in English, both verbal and in writing.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and long-term perspective.
- Ability to apply sound business practices and work with senior management.
- Results-driven senior leader with collaborative, partnership-oriented approach.
- Proactive and self-reliant/independent self-starter.
- Deep understanding of the commercial, regulatory and financial drivers of renewable energy platforms.
- Strong organisational and leadership and planning skills, able to plan effectively, anticipate issues and solve problems.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and application of them during structuring for different stages of the lifecycle of renewable energy projects.
