The Broking Director will lead and oversee the operations of the insurance brokerage firm, driving strategic growth while ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The role combines technical broking leadership, market placement expertise and team management, requiring deep experience in the London and Lloyd’s markets, strong underwriter relationships and a proven track record of placing large and complex insurance programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Management – Lead and manage the broking team, ensuring strong execution across renewals, placements and client servicing; oversee daily operations and align with company goals; provide technical oversight on complex placements and negotiations; foster a positive work environment; develop junior brokers and support the evolution of Blume Insurance into a technology‑enabled platform.
  • Market Leadership – Act as the senior market‑facing broker representing Blume Insurance with insurers, reinsurers and underwriting syndicates; maintain strong relationships with leading global insurers and Lloyd’s syndicates; identify opportunities to optimise programme structures through layered placements, excess structures and alternative capacity.
  • Business Development – Develop and implement strategies to attract new clients and expand the client base; pursue new business opportunities and partnerships; analyze market trends to inform strategies.
  • Global Insurance Programme Management – Develop, implement, and continuously improve the global insurance strategy; oversee placement and renewal of all insurance policies (property, casualty, liability, cyber, D&O, crime, motor fleet); ensure consistency in coverage while addressing local regulatory needs.
  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation – Oversee risk management practices; identify and evaluate insurable risks across global operations; partner with Risk, Legal, Finance and Operations to mitigate exposures; analyze claims data and loss trends.
  • Broker & Insurer Relationship Management – Build and maintain relationships with insurers, underwriters and global clients; lead negotiations on policy terms, pricing and coverage; coordinate multinational programmes and local policy issuance; resolve complex client issues.
  • Claims Management – Oversee claims processes to ensure timely resolution; collaborate with stakeholders and insurers on complex/high‑value claims; monitor performance and identify cost‑reduction opportunities.
  • Compliance & Governance – Ensure the firm operates to highest corporate governance standards; ensure compliance with international insurance regulations and local statutory requirements; maintain documentation and support audits.
  • Financial Oversight – Manage insurance budgets, premiums and cost allocation; forecast and report insurance spend; identify cost optimisation opportunities; monitor KPIs and improve profitability.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Serve as primary contact for insurance‑related matters globally; provide guidance to regional teams; present updates and risk insights to senior leadership.
  • Captive & Alternative Risk Solutions – Support development of risk financing structures such as captives and quota share; work with insurers and reinsurers to structure programmes; manage the captive strategy across commercial and affinity programmes.
  • Team Development – Recruit, train, and develop staff; conduct performance evaluations; promote continuous learning and professional development.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional certifications such as ACII, CPCU, ARM are preferred.
  • Relevant years of experience in corporate insurance, risk management or brokerage.
  • Proven experience placing large and complex insurance programmes, including multinational structures.
  • Strong experience working with the London insurance market and Lloyd’s of London, with established underwriter relationships.
  • Strong network of insurer and underwriter relationships across the London market.
  • Deep understanding of global insurance markets and regulatory environments.
  • Exposure to captive structures or alternative risk financing solutions is highly desirable.
