Salary: Competitive per annum

Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday

Location: Flexible working, 3 days a week in our VHQ, Crawley

Contract: 12 month Fixed Term Contract

As part of the Virgin Atlantic creative studio, the Designer will work collaboratively with internal clients across the business to deliver all design to the highest brand standards, always playing a part as a custodian of our brand and never compromising on our house standards. You will deliver design projects within the airline, predominantly focussing on our ground, airport interiors. From time to time, you may also work on projects that include onboard and service experiences.

Day to day

  • Planning, undertaking and managing the design from conception to completion, from initial brief, design development, CMF innovation and specification, tendering and through to on-site liaison with contractors/manufacturers during development and implementation.
  • Work with and manage agencies to support design process on projects.
  • To work collaboratively with other VA departments, understanding their needs, but constantly championing the Customer.
  • To check the brief is agreed and includes all aspects of safety, reliability and innovation.
  • To make design concepts real so that a design ambition, portrayed through 3D and scale block models, sets the specification for contractors/manufacturers to meet.
  • To ensure product and interiors represent design excellence, reflecting and reinforcing design and brand values of the airline.
  • The undertaking and management of a combination of design projects all with different deadlines, internal customers, and specific issues, ensuring they support the bigger picture.
  • To discover new ideas in appropriate environments and products, that could be of benefit to customers and will help build the Virgin Atlantic brand experience.

About you

Are you passionate about design? Do you love innovation? In addition to the above, we’re looking for our successful Designer to demonstrate the following:

  • Previous experience working in one or more of the following design fields – architecture, interior, colour, material & finish.
  • Experience of managing external agencies and multiple projects concurrently.
  • Minimum requirement of degree-level qualification in a relevant field, or significant on-the-job experience in lieu.
  • Knowledge of development process to create products that Customers will relate to, and successfully bring them to the market.
  • Knowledge of regulatory Health and Safety issues that affect environments around the world.
  • Ability to use 2D, 3D modelling and rendering software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino, Solidworks, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape.
  • Knowledge and confidence in specification of furniture and finishes within high-end hospitality or retail environment.
