At Virgin Atlantic Airways, we believe that everyone can take on the world, and it’s our vision to become the most loved travel company. As we continue through an exciting period of fleet investment and heavy maintenance activity, we’re looking for people who want to play a meaningful role in shaping the future of our Engineering operation.

In a nutshell, as an Outsourced Base Maintenance Projects Engineer, you’ll support the delivery of high-profile outsourced maintenance activity across our fleet. This role sits at the centre of our heavy maintenance and fleet investment programmes, including 787 retrofit activity and Starlink installation, offering exposure to complex engineering projects with real operational impact. Working closely with the Outsourced Maintenance Manager and OBM team, you’ll help ensure maintenance and repair projects are delivered safely, compliantly, on time and within budget.

Day to day:

  • Support the delivery of outsourced maintenance projects against agreed objectives, budgets, timescales, resources and quality standards.
  • Assist with the development of detailed project plans, including budgets, timelines, cost‑of‑ownership targets and resource plans.
  • Provide trend analysis to support aircraft maintenance checks and continuous improvement.
  • Review delivered projects against Virgin Atlantic Engineering procedures and approved audit standards.
  • Support commercial oversight activities, including contract supplement input, MRO invoice review and balancing cost and commercial considerations.
  • Produce reports relating to safety, Part M oversight and cost control.
  • Maintain oversight of MRO KPI performance and ensure records remain up to date.
  • Support training schedules, recruitment activity and day‑to‑day team administration where required.

About you:

We are looking for someone with strong project management capability, confidence working with data, and a solid understanding of engineering environments, ideally within aviation or a similarly regulated industry.

  • Recognised Project Management qualification.
  • Proven data management and analysis experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex workloads.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence working cross‑functionally and with third‑party suppliers.

It would be great if you also have:

  • An aviation background, ideally with an engineering degree or apprenticeship.
  • Knowledge of aircraft systems, structures, propulsion and cabin.
  • Experience working with MROs.
  • Knowledge of CAA, EASA and other National Airworthiness Authority regulations.
  • Experience using TRAX‑eMRO.
  • Familiarity with MyBoeingFleet, Airbus World or AirN@v.
  • Commercial awareness within an engineering or maintenance environment.

Working pattern and travel:

This is a UK‑based role, working Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:30. There is a limited element of travel, with occasional visits to MRO locations such as Malta and Bordeaux. Travel is not mandatory but offers valuable exposure for those who want it.
