In a nutshell
At Virgin Atlantic Airways, we believe that everyone can take on the world. It’s our vision to become the most loved travel company, and as we continue our journey, we’re harnessing our spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation to challenge the status quo. We operate one of the cleanest and greenest fleets in the sky, from Airbus A350s and A330neos to Boeing 787s. Our Engineering community is made up of highly skilled technicians, engineers, planners, and supply chain teams who work together to keep our aircraft safe, reliable, and ready to fly our customers around the world.
We are now looking for a Certifying Engineer (B1) to join our Engineering team. This is a key operational role, responsible for delivering safe, compliant, and high-quality maintenance while leading small teams and working closely with Technical Control and wider stakeholders.
Day to day
- Carry out allocated aircraft maintenance tasks in a safe, secure, and compliant manner, certifying work in line with Virgin Atlantic and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and supervise small maintenance teams to deliver the highest standards of safety, reliability, and on-time performance.
- Act as the focal point of communication between the maintenance team, Technical Control, and where required, third-party suppliers.
- Ensure accurate certification of all maintenance tasks and technical documentation.
- Drive compliance with Engineering safety, EASA regulations, and company procedures.
About you
You are an experienced, confident Certifying Engineer who takes real pride in delivering safe, technically excellent aircraft. You enjoy being hands-on while also leading others, and you thrive in a fast-moving operational environment where no two days are the same.
You will bring:
- A CAA Part 66 B1 Aircraft Maintenance Licence, with the confidence to certify complex maintenance activity safely and accurately.
- Company approvals on one or more widebody aircraft types, such as Airbus A330 (RR Trent), Airbus A350 (RR Trent), or Boeing 787 (RR Trent), working on some of the most advanced aircraft in the sky.
- Proven experience operating in a certifying engineer role, with the credibility and presence to supervise small teams and guide others through challenging technical scenarios.
- Recent hands-on experience in an aeronautical engineering or aircraft maintenance environment, across line and/or base maintenance.
- Strong communication skills, allowing you to lead teams, liaise with Technical Control, and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to keep aircraft moving safely and on time.
- A proactive, organised mindset, with the ability to plan ahead, adapt quickly, and make sound decisions in a live operational setting.
- A full, valid UK driving licence.
It would be great if you also bring experience of the Virgin Atlantic fleet and familiarity with our maintenance and IT systems, but this is not essential. What matters most is your attitude, technical judgement, and passion for aviation.
