Assistant Management Accountant (External Clients)

Position Overview

We are looking for a driven and ambitious

Assistant Management Accountant who is keen to develop into an Account Manager and beyond.

This role is ideal for someone who already has a solid grounding in management accounts and is looking for strong progression , increased responsibility, and client ownership as they continue their professional journey.

You will work closely with clients, senior accountants, and the leadership team, gaining hands-on exposure to high-quality management accounting, commercial insight, and advisory work.

As your experience grows, so will your level of autonomy, complexity of clients, and involvement in strategic discussions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a a secondary point of contact for a portfolio of external clients. Building trusting and professional relationships.
  • Review client bookkeeping on a weekly basis, proactively identifying and resolving issues to ensure clean, accurate data.
  • Be hands on with the monthly preparation of clients P&L and Balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist with period-end close processes, ensuring management accounts are delivered within agreed deadlines (typically within 10 working days).
  • Analyse financial performance and support the delivery of meaningful commentary, insights, and comparisons against benchmarks.
  • Maintain accurate task tracking, client notes, and documentation using internal systems.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure continuity of service and shared knowledge across the team.
  • Progression & Development

This role is designed with progression in mind. Depending on performance and development, you will:

  • Move toward full end-to-end ownership of management accounts for more complex clients.
  • Increase your exposure to client advisory conversations and value-added insights.
  • Develop technical depth across management reporting, forecasting, and commercial analysis.
  • Progress into a

Account Manager role with greater autonomy and leadership responsibility.

  • Receive ongoing support with professional studies, technical training, and soft-skill development.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications : Studying toward or qualified in ACCA / CIMA / CPA.

Experience

Around 1–3 years’ experience in management accounting or a similar role.

Experience working with multiple clients or stakeholders is advantageous but not essential.

Skills

  • Good Excel skills (essential).
  • Strong foundation in management accounts with a desire to deepen technical expertise.
  • Knowledge of Xero is desirable but not required.
  • Clear and confident communicator, comfortable speaking with clients
  • Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage competing deadlines.
  • Curious, motivated and genuinely keen to progress and take on more responsibility.
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and be coached.
