VIQU have partnered with an established, family-owned engineering manufacturer developing specialist commercial vehicles used across the UK and internationally.

The Mechanical Chassis Design Engineer will join an eight-person chassis team, working across the full product life cycle - from early concepts and component design through to validation, production support and aftermarket field fixes. The role offers scope to progress from component-level design into wider systems architecture and project engineering responsibilities.

  • Designing and detailing chassis systems, structures and mechanical components
  • Producing engineering drawings and accurate Bills of Materials
  • Supporting DVP&R, design reviews and product validation
  • Resolving manufacturing, build and field-service issues through root-cause analysis
  • Working with suppliers, customers and cross-functional engineering teams
  • Considering manufacturability, cost, quality and performance throughout the design process

Core technologies and engineering areas include 3D CAD, ideally Solid Edge, BS 8888, sheet metal, fabricated structures, welding, fasteners, BOM creation, DVP&R and Design for Manufacture and Assembly.

Requirements:

  • At least 3-4 years' mechanical design experience within vehicles, yellow goods, heavy machinery, trailers, tankers or a similar industrial environment
  • Experience designing fabricated or sheet-metal components, brackets and structural assemblies
  • Ability to read and produce high-quality technical drawings
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to make clear engineering decisions
  • HNC, HND, apprenticeship or equivalent practical engineering experience
