Lead Electrical & Control Systems Engineer – Stone, Staffordshire | 3 days per week in the office (hybrid). Permanent | No sponsorship available.

VIQU have partnered with a long-established engineering and systems integration business operating at the heart of the UK energy sector. This organisation delivers complex, safety-critical projects across power generation and wider utilities, combining deep technical expertise with long-term project delivery and stability.

This is a hands-on Lead role, combining technical delivery with team leadership. You will take ownership of electrical and control system designs, guide engineers through the full project life cycle, and act as a key technical interface with customers and project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and drive electrical, control, and instrumentation design activities
  • Act as technical authority, reviewing and approving designs produced by the team
  • Produce and oversee system designs including schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and design packs
  • Design and review PLC-based control panels, cabling systems, MCCs, drives, and switchgear
  • Interpret customer specifications and develop compliant, fit-for-purpose solutions
  • Support tenders, cost estimates, site surveys, testing, and commissioning activities
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, procedures, and project timelines

Qualifications

  • Strong background in electrical and control systems within energy, utilities, or similar regulated environments
  • Experience with PLC-based control systems and control panel design
  • Solid understanding of field cabling systems, calculations, earthing, and protection
  • Ability to lead technically, mentor others, and communicate confidently with clients
  • Degree or HND (with relevant experience) in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required
