VIQU have partnered with a long-established UK engineering manufacturer that designs and builds specialist heavy vehicles used within essential frontline services. With decades of heritage and a strong reputation for robust, practical engineering, this organisation designs and manufactures vehicles built to operate in demanding environments. You’ll be joining a close-knit engineering team where designs genuinely go into production and your work has real, visible impact. This opportunity sits specifically within the Chassis function.

Candidates will only be considered if they have hands-on experience designing chassis structures or components that directly attach to a chassis (e.g. subframes, mounting systems, brackets, structural fabrications). Purely small-component or non-structural mechanical design experience will not be suitable.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Designing and developing chassis systems and structural components from concept through to production release
  • Producing 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings to BS8888 standards (Solid Edge preferred)
  • Designing fabricated structures including weldments, sheet metal assemblies, brackets and mounting systems
  • Supporting DVP&R, validation, and production introduction
  • Investigating build or field issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing practical engineering fixes
  • Working closely with manufacturing, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure robust, cost-effective designs

Core skills & experience:

  • 3+ years’ experience in chassis design or structural mechanical design within heavy vehicle, trailer, yellow goods, agricultural, defence, or similar industries
  • Proven experience designing chassis frames or components that mount directly to chassis structures
  • Strong 3D CAD capability (Solid Edge highly desirable)
  • Experience with fabricated and welded structures
  • Good understanding of stress, fatigue, DFMA, and BOM creation

This role would suit an engineer who enjoys structural, fabrication-led design in a practical manufacturing environment rather than highly automated automotive design.
