VIQU are partnering with a leading engineering organisation to recruit a Commissioning Engineer to deliver critical UK energy infrastructure projects. This hands-on role focuses on the testing and commissioning of high-voltage protection and control systems within HV substations, operating in highly regulated environments. You will lead site commissioning activities, perform functional and performance testing, and contribute to commissioning documentation including switching programmes and method statements, with a mix of office-based work and travel to client sites across the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and complete site acceptance testing and commissioning of HV protection and control systems (132kV–400kV).
  • Perform functional and performance testing of protection relays, control systems, panels, RTUs, BCUs, and associated secondary equipment.
  • Support and witness factory acceptance testing (FAT) in line with approved documentation.
  • Produce, review, and manage commissioning documentation including switching programmes, method statements, test reports, and handover records.
  • Deploy and verify configuration and settings files to protection, control, SCADA, and network devices.
  • Control LOTO and ensure all commissioning activities comply with safety procedures and industry standards.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve technical issues during commissioning and energisation phases.
  • Liaise with project managers, site teams, and clients to ensure smooth project delivery.

Key Requirements:

  • Current or previous National Grid SR141 (or BP141 / TP141) authorisation is essential.
  • Proven experience commissioning HV substations and protection & control systems.
  • Strong understanding of HV environments, protection relays, control schemes, and grid standards.
  • Experience with IEC 61850, GOOSE, and substation communication networks.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and strong documentation skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to lead commissioning activities, work under pressure, and meet project deadlines.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
