My client seeks to recruit an experienced Linux engineer to support in maintenance, upgrades and general housekeeping.

Core Competencies

  • Previous experience in a technical position within Linux platform support and/or delivery
  • Familiarity with request, problem and project management processes and tools
  • Detail oriented, process driven, highly innovative mindset, with a deeply engrained sense of ownership for the projects delivered
  • Adept at stakeholder communications, from senior level to domain-wide engagement events
  • A broad and deep understanding of best practice in applying appropriate processes, technologies, and resources to deliver high quality solutions
  • Experienced in managing risk, compliance, audit and security obligations, including implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity procedures

Mandatory Technical Skills

  • Experience of managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux production systems (RHEL 7 through to 10)
  • Experience of using scripting to automate tasks
  • Planning and prioritising of project delivery activities
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with virtualisation technologies (Linux under VMWare)
  • Experience of working within the ITIL framework
  • Experience of managing systems with RHN satellite

Desirable

  • Experience with JBoss
  • Linux performance tuning skills
  • Experience with Linux failover clustering
  • Experience of Kerberos in regards to securing Linux applications and AD integration
  • Experience of Cisco UCS hardware
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning and execution
  • Proven skills in aligning IT with organisational drivers
  • Industry awareness to identify improvement opportunities and implement them across the services and processes incorporated within the domain
  • General knowledge of all areas of IT application and infrastructure
  • Detailed understanding of processes and systems within the domain of expertise
  • Knowledge of Puppet or similar configuration management tools
  • Knowledge of ‘big data’ platforms, e.g. Horton Works, Hadoop etc.
