VIQU is working with a well-established engineering company in the specialist vehicle sector to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex mechanical systems for heavy and specialist vehicles, taking ownership of designs from concept through to production within a supportive, hybrid-working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and chassis systems from concept through to detailed design
  • Produce 3D models, assemblies, 2D drawings, and BOMs in line with BS8888 standards
  • Support engineering problem-solving, validation, and verification activities
  • Communicate design intent to manufacturing, suppliers, and internal teams
  • Support product introduction and provide engineering support during production
  • Investigate field and service issues, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Contribute to engineering change management and continuous improvement activities
  • Work collaboratively within a cross-functional engineering team

Key Requirements

  • HNC/HND or Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering (essential); BEng/MEng (desirable)
  • Previous mechanical design experience within yellow goods, heavy goods, plant, machinery, or similar engineered products
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals including structures, stress, fatigue, and material selection
  • Experience using 3D CAD (Solid Edge preferred, or equivalent such as SolidWorks or Creo)
  • Ability to produce accurate drawings and BOMs with good understanding of DFM/DFA
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including welding and pressed components
  • Experience working within engineering change management processes
  • Detail-oriented, practical, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
